Chapter Twenty Three

  I didn't know how long I had been out here but it started to get dark and chilly.  I looked out into the water and picked up one of the rocks before throwing it into the water. It's skipped a couple of times before sinking. The wind blowing made me shiver even though I was in a long sleeve shirt. " Elijah!" I heard my name being called in the distance.  I shrunk back against the tree and hugged my legs to my chest. I hide my face in my arms. " there you are! We were looking for you for hours " Liam said relieved as he crouched down in front of me. " why'd you bother Sir is just going to get rid of me" I mumbled as Liam pulled off his jacket and put it over my shoulders. "I know it seems like that and trust me the other boys gave him a hard time about it but he had a plan" Liam said as he pulled me up to my feet. I hold onto the jacket tightly as I let Liam pull my back to the house "But you're going to get cold" I mumbled. " It's fine, you're the one that's been out in the cold too long" he said as he pulled out his phone and texted someone.

  After the long walk back the house started to come into view. I see the guys all on the porch and I see Sir standing on the steps as he bites on his lip nervously. His hair was ruffled like he ran his hands through his hair too many times. Liam stopped in front of Sir which caused me to look down. " come let's go inside to get warm. It gets cold here at night even though it's summer time" Sir said as he opened the door for everyone. " I'll make some hot chocolate and tea," Ethan said, going up the kitchen. They all sat down in the living room and Liam wouldn't leave my side.  Sir waited for Ethan to come back with the hot chocolate and tea before he squatted down in front of me. "Elijah I wasn't going to let her take you, we already figured you were being abused there" Sir said softly.  "Then why did you want me to pack my stuff?!" I asked as I kept my head down. Sir grabbed my chin softly and he made me look at him "Because I was going to talk to her and see if I could get her to admit that she neglected you and that her boyfriend abuses you. Don't worry I will get her and her boyfriend arrested" Sir said, caressing my cheek. "I have to go back. I'm still under her care until I turn eighteen in a couple of months" I said biting my lip. "I already have an idea, can I see your phone ?" Sir asked.

  I handed my phone to Sir after pulling up Marcus' number. He dialed the number and there was silence until he started to speak. 'Hi I was wondering if you could try to get custody of Elijah until he turns eighteen' Sir said as he sat on the other side of me. 'Um sure is our mom being crazy again?' Marcus asked over the phone. 'In a way but I suspect that she neglected Elijah and let her boyfriend abuse him' Sir said calmly as he started to run his fingers through my hair.  'Really, can I speak to him?' He asked. He sounded upset I thought as I lean into Liam. ' I don't think he feels up to talking right now but call me back later and we can make a time for you to visit so you both can talk' Sir said as he pushed my curls out of my face. 'Okay. I'll work on trying to get custody, talk to you later' Marcus said hanging up. "Sorry for causing trouble" I mumbled biting my lip. " You're not causing trouble little one" Sir said as he wraps his arm around both Liam and I. "How about we watch a movie and let Elijah choose?" Francis said as he turned on the tv and went to Netflix. " Fox and the Hound?" I asked shyly as Liam grabbed the blanket from the couch and wrapped it around them. " You got it. I'll make some popcorn" Noah said getting up as Francis turned on the movie. Once everyone was settled and popcorn was passed out, the movie was started. I remember making it halfway through the movie before I fell asleep. Being between two warm bodies put me out like a light.
