the name "Maria" means ocean of bitterness.
Looking out at the sea of sorrows
Bottomless and stretching into infinity
Maria wondered if she'd live to see tomorrow
And if life still held sublimity
Looking over at the ocean of sky above herShe spotted a lone seagull in the blue
Looking down at the sea of pain beneath her
She spotted a dolphin in the blue
Watching the dark depths of the oceanIts surface now dangerously silent
Under the surface, were there any commotions?
Despite the surface being so aloof and ambivalent?
As alone and vast as the ocean in her heartShe thought the sea and her were so same
Their depths with writhing monsters and sharks
Both their depths with sunken ships where storms rain
For storms go deeper than the surfaceAnd like the sea, we all have internal storms
And at that moment Maria wanted to break her surface
And scream at the sky of scorn
Why couldn't life just always be on the calm surfaceWith no happiness, joy, love, and passion
For they are the reason that hopelessness would resurface
And drain away all ship supplies and rations
On the horizon, she saw a gray cloud floatInto the bottomless abyss above her head
A gray cloud lost in the sky just like her boat
And she knew that soon thunder would shed
And now she faced a choice in lifeTo fight or hold on, no choice of flea
For we have all had moments in our life
When we are lost at sea
