As Dayin blinked open his eyes, memories came flooding back to him, and not in the nonsensical way they had tried to present themselves originally. It surprised him to still see Jensen in the room with them. The three of them looked grim, and Dayin wondered what he'd missed while he'd been out. His heart sunk, wondering if they'd learned something terrible.
He let Jensen and Ica pull him up, so he was sitting on the table, rather than laying back on the table with them staring down at him. "I think it worked?" he said as he brushed strands of his dark, messy hair out of his face. He couldn't make eye contact with any of them. "I don't feel like someone is trying to crush my skull."
"That's usually a good thing," Ica said, though his usual tone of laughter wasn't there. It only made Dayin's heart sink further. "We've come to a conclusion about something, Day. And I don't want you to talk until I've explained because then we'll get off-topic and I don't want to have to get back on track."
Dayin raised an eyebrow as he pushed the memories that he'd wanted to focus on in the back of his mind. Instead, his mind went racing away on any or all of the things that the twins and Ica could have concluded about. "Okay." His voice was surprisingly steady for how nervous he was.
"We know that these Turned warlocks are looking for you, like William said. Finn and Jensen agreed that they were willing to help, but... the thing is, the minute we make it known that we're helping you, everyone is in danger—"
"Danger?" Dayin interrupted, eyes wide. He didn't want anyone to be in danger just because of him. Nobody needed to put themselves in harm's way for him.
Ica frowned at him, though he didn't look truly annoyed. Dayin had noticed that while Ica could sound annoyed, the only way to tell that he was actually annoyed was if he wore the expression to match the tone. "I said don't interrupt," he muttered. "Anyway. When we start helping you, we have to be careful about who we tell things to."
Dayin glanced between Finn, Jensen, and Ica. They all stood there, looking almost nonchalant about the situation, despite how dire it really was. Were they all seriously willing to put themselves in danger... for him? "You guys don't have—"
"Day, if we don't try to help you, we're leaving you to basically become a bad person... which also then puts our lives in danger anyway," Ica insisted. Dayin supposed he had a point. "So, I guess, when you look at it this way, we're trying to protect ourselves." He pursed his lips together and squinted. The look would have been funny, if not for the nature of the conversation. "Huh. Well, that doesn't sound nearly as heroic as I'd like it to sound."
Finn coughed and cleared his throat. "We're helping you because we want to help you, not because it's in our best interest," he said with an annoyed look at Ica.
"Even though it kind of is," Ica said, still making the same stupid face he'd made since he'd mentioned it wasn't heroic. "Ignore me. Sorry."
"I am." Dayin turned his attention back to Finn and Jensen. "Are you really sure that's what you want to do? I can't control my magic... I-I... I hurt myself this morning while I was dreaming," he stammered. They couldn't be serious.
