I woke up feeling better than yesterday. I took a shower, threw on some clothes, and went downstairs. There was food prepared on the table with a sticky note that read,"Better make this day happy. Don't cry, okay? Prepare to meet him today. ;)"
I smiled, grabbing my breakfast before washing the dishes. After that, I went outside and waited for the driver.
...
I got out of the car and sighed, feeling a little anxious. I crossed my fingers, hoping I wouldn’t bump into Zayne today. I headed straight to the gymnasium and saw my friends sitting there.
"Uhmm, hi guys" I said, giving a small smile. They all looked up, and then Kylie stood up, pulling me into a hug.
"Namiss ka namin! Bakit di ka pumasok kahapon?" she asked, dragging me to her seat.
"Ah, I just didn’t feel like going" I said casually.
"Sus, first time yata mangyari yan ah. Something’s fishy" she said, eyeing me suspiciously. I turned away, trying to act normal. Then the bell rang, signaling the start of class, so we made our way to the classroom.
I tried to focus on the lesson, but my mind kept wandering. The thought of seeing Zayne again made me nervous. Kylie, who was sitting next to me, noticed my unease.
"What’s going on?" she whispered, giving me a concerned look. She passed me a note, and I unfolded it,
“Bakit hindi ka pumasok kahapon? Wala kang sakit, and if you did, you wouldn’t have gone back today. I asked Sean, and he won’t tell me why. He said I should ask you instead.”
I sighed, grabbing my pen and jotting down my response,
“Remember when we were sitting on the bench in front of the school? You saw Zayne, right? I did too. I just... got hurt, I guess? Disappointed. We had made plans to talk after classes, but he didn’t even message. I waited all evening, hoping he’d text, but nothing. I woke up feeling like I couldn’t go to school and see his face. I... cried last night.”
I passed the note back to her. She read it carefully and
"Does your brother know?" she whispered.
"Sean told him. He actually took me to a small town to help me relax. It worked" I said with a small smile.
"Are you regretting your choice?" Kylie asked. I thought for a moment before replying,
"It’s too early to regret. And I don’t even know who that girl is. Maybe she’s a relative, or just a friend." Kylie shook her head, focusing on the teacher as the lesson resumed.
After all the classes ended and the bell rang, we were free for the afternoon. As we headed out of the building, I heard my name.
"Azariah."
I froze, my heart skipping a beat. I glanced at Kylie.
"Should I stay with you?" she asked, her voice soft with concern.
"Please stay" I replied, giving her a small, reassuring smile. She nodded, standing beside me as we turned around.
Zayne was there, looking a little nervous. I forced a smile.
"O-oy, what’s up?" I said. He smiled back awkwardly.
"Uh, sorry for yesterday. I forgot, but I’ll make it up to you." he said, but it didn't sound regretful enough.
