Kaitlyn's arms and legs quivered with fatigue as she continued bracing herself in the rafters. She heard the rustle of her prey moving through the apartment, searching for her.
She closed her eyes and took two deep breaths, centering herself and relaxing the muscles that cried for release. Patience, she told herself.
The movements grew closer and she opened her eyes, alert for the right moment. The fatigue that has gripped her muscles just moment ago was gone now, her attention fixed on the figure moving below.
The shadowed figure paused, some sound or feeling warning of danger. Kaitlyn held her breath, determined not to let the opportunity pass, an opportunity to finally win out over her opponent.
The figure passed below her and paused again, head high and alert, but still covered in shadow. Kaitlyn couldn't read expression- was the figure aware of her? Waiting for her to attack? Or was the shadowed figure only alert to the constant probability of a bandit's presence, vigilant to possibility?
Kaitlyn tensed, and a moment later was dropping silently down towards the figure, her arms and legs ready to grasp the victim.
She landed as expected, on her pret's back, and immediately wrapped legs and arms around the figure. She heard a grunt of surprise and then the figure twisted in a defensive move, schooled in self defense.
In a flash they were on the floor in a tangle, arms and legs attempting to gain superiority. Kaitlyn was on top, then pinned by her opponent's longer legs; she was held at the shoulders, then twisted to gain position by grasping the body in a head lock.
She was subduing the opponent, feeling the fight fade from the writhing body when a voice called out from downstairs.
" kaitlyn! I have snacks! Ask your study buddy if she'd hungry!"
Kaitlyn rolled off her opponent and best friend Julia.
"Mom!" She yelled back in frustration. "We have finals tomorrow! There's no time for snacks!"
Kaitlin's best friend sat up and smoothed her wrestle-wild hair.
"I don't know, " Julia said. " I could probably use a break."
Kaitlyn looked at her best friend and rolled her eyes. "Sure you do. Cuz u was winning."
Julia punched her playfully in the arm. "You were falling into my trap, I was about to get the upper hAnd!
"Sure you were!" Kaitlin giggled and they both went downstairs for the popcorn and soda laid out by her mom.
