Monica sat in the passenger's seat typing on the computer.
"How far have you reached?" Evan turned to her, stopping at the red traffic light.
She raised her head, looking at him, "I'm almost finish" She sighed.
They were on the highway, still no where near the city.
It was nearly the end of the week so it pretty weird to see traffic on a weekday.
The light turned green. All the cars sped off as Evan slowly drove off.
She looked up once again, looking out the window seeing an old woman driving slow in her mini-van passing them.
"Oh look Evan!" She chuckled at him, "You have competitions"
Evan gazed at Monica unamused, "I'm not gonna risk losing gas"
He explained.
Monica watched the old woman pass them and frowned, "From the rate were going, the gas might be around for a million years" She argued.
She typed up the project paper, throwing her computer in the back seat. "Okay I'm done!"
She yawned.
Monica got angry, breathing heavily at Evan. "Turn to the side!" Monica shouted.
Evan jumped, "Okay." She turned to the sighed, stopping the car.
She hopped out the car walking to Evan side, "Get out" She gestured. He came out the car, dusting off the seat.
Monica got it, starting the car back up. Evan sat in the back seat, reading the project.
"Let's go!" Monica yelped, speeding down the highway.
"Slow down!" He screamed hitting his head on the back of the driver's seat. He dropped the computer as it shut off, not saving the current document.
Police sirens were heard behind the car.
"Pull over!" The shouted with the megaphone. Monica turned to the side, stopping the car while shaking.
"We're screwed" She mumbled. Evan sat still in the back seat, looking away.
They heard footsteps walking towards the car, as the officer took off his glasses.
Monica took at his name tag titled, "Darren"
"Hello Darren" She smiled fixing her hair. "License and registration" He put his hand.
Monica opened the glove compartment, pretending to look for her stuff.
"Didn't you get it last week?" Evan whispered to her.
She turned back, "I failed the test" She pleaded. Evan lowed his head in embarrassment.
"Out of the car" Darren said, opening the car door. Monica jumped out, struting to the side making sure Darren could see.
Evan kept his head down, nearly crying in fear. She stood by him."I have a plan" She whispered to Evan. Clearing her throat she announced, "I have to go to the ladies room"
Darren turned around on confusion staring at her, "At the side of the highway?"
He asked, writing up a ticket.
Monica breathed and made a run for it. "Not today!" She shouted.
She didn't make it far but ended up falling over and breaking a heel. She tried to crawl away.
"I can make it" She sighed in commitment.
Evan walked over and helped her up.
"Sir, I can drive so.." Evan continued. Darren handed them a ticket, a fine of eighty dollars.
"You boy, drive her home" Darren stated while getting back in his police jeep. He drove off with his flashing lights and police sirens echoing in the distance.
Monica angrily went back in the car, using her beannie to cover her whole face.
"What you going to do now, rob a bank?" Evan joked.
He drove off with a little more pace and this time they were actually near the city.
