Armin woke up to the sight of bricked up walls and a cell door. He was allowed rest before a long day of interrogation and questioning. He didn't know how long he had been asleep for, he barely knew what time it was considering there were no windows to see outside. The sound his name being called from the bars had awoken him and he saw a figure standing at the other side, from his drowsy vision, all he could see the figure of a small girl, with long blonde hair and he couldn't help but think it was Annie waiting for him.

"Annie?" He asked as he sat up straight in the bed, but it wasn't her.

"It's just me, Historia." She gently slid a plate of food under the small space between where the cell bars ended and the bricked ground began, she sat down. Armin got to his feet and sat down in front of her as he began to eat.

"Are you not supposed to be in the castle right now?" Armin asked as he dug into his food.

"Well yes but, Ymir was supposed to come and see me today... and then I heard about what happened so I had to ask you in person... was Ymir really a shifter, did she really leave?"

Armin stopped eating, he hesitated. He knew Ymir and Historia were in love, it was obvious by the way they treated one another, how Ymir went on and on about marrying Historia and how she was so overprotective. Armin would have guessed they had no secrets between one another, not even something as big as this. In an odd way, they reminded him of Annie and himself.

He nodded, he couldn't make eye contact with her, it would be too sore to see her heart shatter in her eyes. "She's working with Reiner and Bertholdt... I'm sorry."

Historia threw herself forward and clung onto the bars, they made a loud bang. She didn't want to believe it was true, that the woman she loved was also working against humanity. He was almost hysterical, tears were visable in her eyes. "Armin, tell me they're holding her hostage or something, she's not truly one of them... please tell me she isn't doing this on her own free will! That isn't my Ymir!"

He was taken aback, he had never seen her in such a panic before. "I can't say, I don't know the whole story..." Armin sighed however he knew who would know. His mood had instantly perked up when he realised Annie would have arrived, that by the time he had woken she would have been here for hours now and would be waiting to see him. "But Annie will know, if you speak to her, she will tell you!"

"Oh..." Historia didn't look hopeful, in fact she looked disappointed. Armin was confused, Annie would tell her the answers, she would be able to provide a whole story yet Historia seemed down.

"What is it?"

"Armin, when I arrived there had been scouts on patrol, waiting for her the whole night and Annie never showed... she isn't here."

His heart dropped, this could have meant a few things to him. She lied, again, to spare his life and went with them to let him get away in time, she was so badly hurt she wasn't able to escape them or — and it stuck him like a dagger in the chest to even think this — she was killed fighting them off.

"No," Armin denied, he wanted to believe she wouldn't lie again, that their last conversation was all the truth. "She told me she was coming, she told me to run and that she'd be right behind me..."

"You loved her, didn't you?"

Armin pitifully nodded, there was no point in hiding it, it was obvious that there was something between them, wether people disapproved of it or not, he didn't care anymore. Armin pushed his food away from him, his appetite ceased, he could no longer eat, his stomach instead filled with disappointment and worry. Historia let out a sigh, she knew the feeling, she had felt sick to the stomach ever since the news about Ymir had reached her. They both sat there in silence, two broken-hearted fools with lovers working for the enemy.
