Chapter 9

“What do you mean he went out?” Nick growled out through his office phone. “I’m trapped in my fucking office and you can’t find anyone to kick the fucking door down?” With that he slammed the phone down onto the receiver.

I stared at him in shock; I don’t think I’ve ever seen him this angry. “How long did they say it would take?” He just looked at me with a dark expression.

“It’s fucking incredible that out of the 56 floors we have in this building we only have one guy who knows how to open the damn door and he’s still on his damn lunch break not answering his damn cell phone.” He says exasperatingly sitting back down on his giant rolling chair with a huff. It wasn’t that bad I mean lunch break ends about 45 minutes. What can possibly happen in such a short amount of time?

“So..” I said after about 10 minutes of silence “How ‘bout those Knicks?” He looked down to look at me then pulled his palms up to his face and groaning in them.  Suddenly he stood up walking towards the door and stopped just when he was in the middle of the room.

He looked like he was giving himself a little bit of a pep talk and all of a sudden slams his shoulder into the door. Did he really think he could break the door down? I mean sure he’s got those ripped biceps and those big broad shoulders and ooh! Don’t get me started on his chest—I was pulled out of my trance when I noticed him groaning on the floor clutching his shoulder.

“Fuck that last one hurt!” he gritted through his teeth.  Quickly I rushed to his side sitting him up a little so he could lean on the wall.

“I wonder sometimes how someone as dumb as you managed to become an entrepreneur at such a young age.” I say pretending to be in deep thought.

“You know, you’re not really helping much, besides this whole thing was your fault to begin with.” He said throwing me a menacing stare.

“What? How on earth is this fault?” I ask disbelievingly. “You were the one who wanted to battle it out with a steel door twice your weight!”

“If it wasn’t for you flirting with Evan and going out on dates with him I wouldn’t have stupidly confessed my, obviously one-sided, feelings for you and I wouldn’t have ruined my lunch meeting today and I wouldn’t have broken this stupid printer and chucked it at the stupid door and the stupid door knob wouldn’t have been dismembered. Therefore, this is entirely your fault.”

“Hey! I was never flirting with Evan. He was nice to me when I was new and bought me lunch and I decided to return the favor.” I fought back, insulted.

“Oh, great! I guess it’s a regular thing for you to throw yourself at someone who was being nice to you. How many favors do you have yet to return?”

The sound of skin hitting skin rang through the room as my hand made contact with his cheek. I knew he was my boss and hitting him would probably get me fired but I didn’t give two shits at the moment.

Just then the door was busted open and a chunky bearded man appeared by the doorway. I picked myself up and made my way out the door but not before I heard Nick call out.

“Hey Ang, this man helped you out why don’t you return the favor.” I stopped dead on my tracks. I turned back into his office to see him satisfied with his ‘great’ comeback. I walked to his desk scribbling something on a piece of paper before I ripped it out and handed it to the handyman.

“Call me.” I said with a wink leaving Mr. Walker’s jaw wide open and the handyman with a smile on his face as he cradled the paper that held a random combination of ten numbers.
