Meg's POV

After triple checking to ensure the house clear, I get Kade into the car and start the drive to the new house. I look over at my 13-year-old brother, playing on my dad's Ipad, and sigh. I drive out of our neighborhood, watching it disappear in the review mirror.

The drive doesn't feel like four hours; it most definitely was. When I pull up to what I suppose our new house is, it's almost seven o'clock. I park on the street side down a bit from the moving van and wake up Kade. "Hey, little bro. We're here." I say, gently shaking him. "Oh, okay," he says, starting to wake up.

We both get out of the car and make our way towards the house. "Oh! Here you guys are. I was worried about you all." Mom says, looking over at us. "Yeah, sorry. I was taking my time. Plus, I triple-checked the house." I responded. "Thank you. That makes me feel better." She says. "No problem," I answer, quickly moving off this topic.

"So, where is my room?" "It's up two floors. This house is three stories. Your father, brother, and I are on the second floor, and to make up for moving during your senior year, you have the entire third floor to yourself." She responds. "Oh, Mom, that's awesome. Thank you!" I say, surprised. I didn't honestly think my parents cared.

"Well, don't make me regret it." She says sternly. "Of course not," I respond, starting up the stairs. I make my way up the two flights of stairs to find my room. The hallway has three doors down it, so I randomly open the first one. Inside the room, bookshelves are lining three walls, and a large window area perfect for a window seat on the fourth wall. "Damn," I whisper, walking back out. I'd always wanted a library.

I walk a little further down and open the second door. This room is large with plain walls, a door on the side (I'm assuming closet), and an ensuite bathroom. I hear a knock on the wall behind me as I'm taking in the room. "Hey kid, the movers are ready to bring your boxes up. This room good?" I hear my dad say. "Yeah, definitely," I respond, turning around. "Did you see the library room?! That's my favorite room already."

"Yeah, I thought you'd like that," he laughs. "Check out the next door too. We're planning on adding a desk and making it an office for you and us after you move out." "With the library here, you might never get rid of me," I joke, laughing. He laughs and walks downstairs. When I hear him tell the movers what room, I move onto the last door. This room is painted a dark gray and has a large window facing the backyard. I look around and start to understand why Mom wanted to move.

Roughly an hour or so later, the movers are pulling out, and I'm pulling my car into the driveway. I walk back in to hear Mom say, "I'm ordering a pizza. Go start unpacking." "Alright," I reply. I am walking into my room and grab a random box. I start sorting through my stuff for like forty minutes when Dad yells that the pizza is here. I finish up my box and walk back downstairs. I grab a piece and move towards the table.

"So, Mom, how long you think it'll take up to unpack completely?" I ask. "Well, I don't know, because you guys start school here in two weeks. I'm hoping to be done before then, though." She responds. "Okay. That makes sense. How far away is the high school?" I ask out of curiosity. "About a five-minute drive. Oh! Before I forget, on Thursday, we have to go down there to get you registered and everything." She says, making eye contact with me.

"Sounds good," I answer. "Are you sure you don't want to do marching band? I'm sure they'd be glad to have you." Dad asks, looking at me. "Yeah, I'm sure. If I joined here, I'd be competing against my friends. Plus, I'd just be reminded of what the season back there could've been." I said sincerely. "I just want to focus on school and maybe join some clubs for my resume." "Alright, sweetheart," Mom says. Kade takes this as the time to fill the table in on how he will decorate his room.

After everyone finishes eating, we separate to our respective rooms and get ready for the night. I unpack one more box before laying down on my bed. "Hey, sweetheart. I just wanted to say goodnight." Mom says as she knocks on the door. I get up and open it. "Goodnight," I say, smiling. I hug her, and she turns back down the steps. I get ready for bed and fall on top of my covers. Unexpectedly, I fall asleep quickly.
