Meg's POV

"Meg! Get up! The moving truck will be here soon." I hear my mom yell from down the stairs. "I'm up!" I yell back. I get up and walk to my closet, which is bare besides a pair of leggings and a college sweatshirt. I quickly change, looking at my deep brown hair in the mirror before brushing it out.

It has gotten to my mid-back, and I've been fighting my mom on when to cut it again. After changing and brushing my hair and teeth, I quickly pack the last little bit I had out into boxes. My mom has this thing about moving. We've moved almost every six years. I can't explain it, but it sucks that my senior year of high school is at a new school.

I walk downstairs to find my shoes when I notice my little brother sitting at the dining room table. "Hey Kade, what's up?" I ask, walking behind him to grab my converse. "I'm just ready to get this day going so we can see the new house. Mom says it's really cool!" He replies eagerly. "Since she picked it out, I'm sure it will be. You know she always picks cool houses. We said the same thing about this house five years ago." I said.

"Well, yeah, duh." He answers, going back to ignoring me. I roll my eyes and go to the kitchen. "Did we seriously pack all of the food?!" I yell. "There's pop tarts in the cabinet!" Mom yells back. "I mean, pop tarts are better than nothing," I say quietly. I quickly locate the alleged pop tarts and start to eat one. Mom walks into the kitchen and says, "Oh great, you found them. Well, eat quickly. The movers just arrived. They are getting started upstairs." "Alright," I answer, making no efforts to eat any quicker.

She shakes her head at me and walks out. Like I've said, I've been through this process at least four times, but I can only remember three of them. However, it means I know what mood mom will be in and how things will go throughout the day. I watch as the movers work quickly to pack our stuff up.

The new house is like a four-hour drive, so they are wanting to get moving quickly. As they start on the lower level, I find my mom stressing in the corner. "Mom, don't you and dad need to get going? You have to sign all the paperwork at 4." I ask. "Oh shit, yeah. Are you good to drive Kade to the house?" She says, looking startled.

"Yup, I've got the address, and don't worry. I'll stay and make sure everything is out of the house." I assure her (like I said I've been through this). "Oh thank you. I don't know what I'd do without you, Meg." She says. "Uh-huh, well get going," I say. She rushes to grab my dad, and they let the movers know what is going on before driving off.

As I watch the movers load the last of the boxes, I start to wonder about what this year will hold. I was supposed to be the conductor of my old high school's band, but I'm not even in the band at this new school. I'm leaving all of my friends and moving to a whole new city. I just hope something good comes out of this.

So first chapter?? This is one of my first books, so please go easy on me. Anyway, let me know what y'all think!
