Everyone had gathered in the chapel on time, which was most unusual, not even John and Esme with five children were late. The bells began to ring and mass sheets were handed out. "Finn stopping swearing at them." Mollie May smacked his shoulder as he eyed up and muttered at Graces family sitting opposite them.
They were dressed in their army uniform which only seemed to provoke the Shelby boys. "I will if they will." He growled, "Don't be silly Finn, they're not staring or swearing." She looked over at the silent benches full of expensive colours, dazzling dresses and uniforms and gulped as she met their cold, hard stares of disgust. Most of them muttered back and forward as they turned to look at the people sitting opposite them in disappointment.
She sighed, "Swear at them all you want, Finn. Fucking pig headed twats." Which made Finn smirk at her. Mollie May took a song sheet from the altar boy and quickly read over the selection of songs before scrunching it up and stuffing it in her handbag.
"You not goin' to need that?" Esme questioned from her right side as she watched her close the handbag, "I'm not really a singer." John cooed at Mollie May about the time some woman actually paid her to stop signing while Mollie May glared daggers at him.
The baby in John's arms continued to squeal and cry, filling the church with even more noise. Esme went to take the baby from John to hush it, to which John snapped, "No, I've got this." Esme gave Mollie May a knowing look and she smirked, "John Shelby taking care of an actual child." "Never thought I'd see the day." Esme agreed.
Linda watched John closely as he shushed and hushed the little boy in his arms. Mollie May caught Arthurs eye, who stood proudly as best man and she flashed him a quick smile, before turning to smack Finn again who swore a little too loudly in the chapel.
The choir started to sing and hush fell over the church. "Here come the fucking Cavalry. Late as usual." Mollie May rolled her eyes at John, the baby now quiet in Esme arms. Grace and her father walked at a steady pace up the aisle.
She looked stunning as Tommy flipped the veil back. Her deep blue eyes shining. Her hair had been beautifully curled with a gorgeous headband of diamonds sitting on her head comfortably. She wore natural makeup and Mollie May couldn't help but feel the rush of longing and admiration she first felt when she met Grace at the Derby.
After the day at the race track, Grace had become more present around the Shelby household. Mollie May had also become quite friendly with the Irish woman, much to the disdain of Polly, but Molly May couldn't help it. Grace was like gravity; everyone was just pulled to her and the stories she told.
"Do you Thomas Michael Shelby, take Grace Helen Burgess to be your lawful wedded wife?" Jerimiah started the final blessings. "I do."
The familiar words transported her to a small, badly lit chapel, back in 1914. "And do you, Mollie May Cecilia Robinson, take Leon Francis King, to be your lawful wedded husband?" "I do." She had grinned widely and looked into Leon's warm brown eyes which shone back at her.
There were no wedding bells announcing their marriage as they slipped the rings onto each-others fingers with goofy smiles. There was no veil or white dress, just a white cotton shirt, braces and trousers, which had been passed down to her. She'd never tell her Polly, but she'd cut the bottoms off all her dresses so that they were too short to wear. A peaky cap sat on top of her braids.
Leon didn't have a fancy suit or a flower on his lapel, he also wore his everyday trousers, white shirt and jacket, his fedora slid slightly off his head when he leaned in to kiss her. He took off her peaky cap and placed his fedora on her head instead.
