I sprinted home. Clutching my bag to my side, my coat hanging limply off one shoulder.
I told Oliver to apologise to Alexis for me, explaining that I forgot I had some serious family business to attend to.
It wasn't too far from the truth.
Alexis, I hoped, would understand - knowing what I know about her now, complicated family business seems to be her childhood. My head was spinning with what I had just learnt, I couldn't figure out exactly how to explain to Devon what was going on.
I didn't have much time to figure it out either as my house came into view as I came huffing and puffing around the corner.I burst through the door and threw my things down, immediately racing around the house to find Devon.
"DEVON." I screamed, "DEVON PLEASE!"The pounding of footsteps sounded from behind me and Devon came racing towards me. He grabbed me by my shoulders and began inspecting me, his face tight with concern.
"What? What's wrong? Are you okay?" He patted me down and waited for my response."I'm fine. I'm not hurt but listen, we need to go, like we need to go NOW. You're being watched by Jensen. He's watching you." My words were rushed and barely audible.
I didn't want to be loud, just in case Victoria was somehow tied in to all this and Isaac overheard.Devon's arms went slack at his sides and he sighed, his eyes closing slowly.
I frowned as he fell back into a chair, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger."Devon? Are you not listening? I'm being serious!" But my words didn't seem to resonate.
"I know." He said slowly.
"What?" I gasped.
Devon looked up at me, his face full of regret, "Listen... I know, I've seen one of his goonies waiting outside the shop for weeks now." His voice was deep and thick, "...Alexis? The woman who's child you're babysitting- god I didn't want to tell you this- I knew her ex was involved and that she's still so tightly fucking wound up in him that she's doing dirty work on his behalf too. I was waiting for you to come into some information like this... you could be my insider."
"...you aren't in any danger, believe me I wouldn't do that, but you do need to stay calm if we're going to-"I stormed towards him, "STAY CALM?" I bellowed, "You throw me into the lions den and you expect me to stay fucking calm?" My whole body was quivering, "-you, you're a psychopath! We moved away to escape this shut not to-"
Devon stood up and grabbed my wrist tightly, "DO YOU THINK WE WOULD EVER ESCAPE THIS?" His chest was heaving, "because if you did...you're a lot dumber than I thought.""Remember when I said I tried to run because I was scared. Hmm?" I spat, Devon straightened, his eyes widening, "-well, good job, I'm very nearly there again! But this time, it'll be your fault."
I had to. Well, I didn't have to. I didn't even want to. It just came out.I didn't wait for his reaction, I was almost too scared to, so I snatched my hand out of his grip and stormed upstairs.

Devon's POV:
"Pathetic. Stupid fucking..." I mumbled to myself as I bounded down into the basement.
Isaac was still tied to the chair, his gunshot wound was fine, it'd gone straight though, I patched it up for him and gave him some painkillers and water.
God knows why Victoria still thinks we're the enemy she has to eliminate. I can't even imagine the other barriers she'll have to break down before she actually gains control over everyone.
Including Jensen and his people."I'm going to ask you something and you're going to answer me, because if you do, and you answer me honestly - because I know the truth Isaac-" I didn't, but it was a sure fire way to get him to tell me what was going on on his end, "...I'll let you go. You can run on back to Victoria. First, though, you need to tell me if you and Victoria have been in kahoots with Jensen." I raised an eyebrow and studied him carefully.
Isaac paled and shook his head, "N-no." His body began shaking, "Isabelle sent me a message a few weeks back... explicitly telling me to stay well out of Jensens way, he knows...he knows we are all divided. He wants what Vicky wants, he wants power. You and I both know he's got much better odds of getting that than Victoria."
"...the man is insane."
Isaac's bottom lip trembled."Isabelle is tied up in all of Jensen's schemes why would she risk-" I couldn't understand why Isabel would bother sending a message to Isaac. If Jensen found out she'd been communicating with her brother outside of his permission about his plans then...she's as good as dead.
Isaac squeezed his eyes tight and sobbed lightly, "Jensen has the kids. Felix and...Isabelle gave birth to a little girl, they called her Alexandra. Jensen was, he was fine for a while, looked after his children, adored his daughter - but then, when the fight happened and we all split up, everything fell apart over there, Isabelle tried to move home with our parents for a time but, Jensen didn't want her to."
"...she begged him, begged him, but he didn't listen, he just took the children from her and warned her that if she didn't stay, she'd never see them again. It gets worse, though, he wants me, he wants me to join him and if he reaches out and I say no... let's just say, the threat on the kids gets worse."Realisation hit me, "She warned you to hide away and avoid any potential goonies of his to ensure you didn't have to make that choice."
She's risked her life to protect her children."I've tried to tell Victoria that we have bigger things to do before she sets her sights on eliminating you two again. Like, saving Isabelle and Felix and Alexandra, but Victoria is Victoria and she won't hear it." He dropped his head, "She's my sister... I agreed to come here to get rid of you guys so I can save my family." He admitted.
I picked up the knife on the table beside me and walked behind where Isaac was seated. The ropes snapped off him as I sliced them and I hauled him to his feet.
"Go home Isaac. Leave a contact number."He frowned, "why?"
"Because I'm going to help you, if you agree to help me." I reasoned.
"Help you do what?" He rubbed his wrist where his restraints had been and slowly backed up towards the stairs.
I sighed.
"Help me find my guys and get them together, and we will storm Jensens base and save your family."
Isaac paused for a moment and thought it through. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement, saying no would set him back too far.
We can deal with Jensen pulling his army together later. For now, we eliminate the thing that's holding Isaac back and we pull him in. He has people who trust him and who need him, and if we're working together, we will be stronger than ever."Okay." He said and held his hand out.
I clutched it with my own and shook it firmly.
Deal.
