Hobbs had offered Todd, Dirk and Sicillian refuge in his trailer that night as the holding cells were occupied, meaning the brunette woman finally got a chance to sleep on a proper bed again. It was bliss. The ex bellhop had taken the sofa, the brit the air mattress leaving the green eyed woman to the spare room. She didn't complained. Farah and Tina had slept at the station to keep an eye on the prisoners, and she was glad to be in a bed rather than there. It was the best sleep she'd gotten in ages.
Her awakening? Not as nice.
"Sissy, get the hell up, Dirk's gone!" Todd's voice in the morning was far from dulcet, and she found herself jerked out of stasis as he popped his head into the room.
"Shit, again?" She cursed. She couldn't let him out of her sight, could she? The Hollistic Assistant quickly changed into her clothes from yesterday, deeming them wearable. Hobbs, still carrying the air-gun despite the fact he should have submitted it in evidence, joined them outside, holding the keys to his car.
"I have a pretty good idea where he's gone." Todd said confidently.
"Where?" Sicillian asked trying to keep the urgency from her voice.
"The Cardeneas House." That was all they needed. Sherlock turned the key in the ignition, pulling them away from the trailer by the quarry, and along the dusty gravel path that would lead to the road. The journey was made mostly in silence, the two assistants knowing it was never a good idea to leave Dirk alone, given his proclivity for dangerous situations or people trying to kill him.
"I wish he'd stop running off." Todd sighed from the passenger seat.
"He's not really the stay-put type." Sicillian chuckled slightly. There was quiet for a minute, before Hobbs turned to the ex bellhop inquisitively.
"So, I never got the chance to ask you, how's your sister wrapped up in all of this?" The sheriff asked.
"She and I have the same disease. It runs in the family. Or- I pretended to have it, and then she had it and now I actually have it." It was a tired and half-assed explanation Sicillian could only expect from Todd.
"Amanda went off with some more people like me and Dirk before Blackwing got us. She's still out there, but they're tracking her." The Hollistic Assistant sighed. She hadn't really thought about the younger Brotzman, but now found herself stricken with concern. In the short time they'd known each other, they'd gotten close. The green eyed American hoped she was okay.
"You pretended to have the- You?" Hobbs was still mulling over Todd's earlier statement. "Why would you-"
"I did some selfish things. Some selfish things I really regret. Most of all, lying to Amanda." Sicillian pulled a face, not sure if she would ever feel sympathy for him on this particular subject. Yes, he regretted it. Yes, he was trying to get better. But he still did it. The shorter man was her friend, but it didn't mean she couldn't criticise the things he did. Especially if they were... Well, that. "She wasn't happy when I told her." The Hollistic Assistant raised a sarcastic eyebrow from the back seat, feigning being shocked. It was probably lucky Todd didn't see. He might have slapped her.
"Well, you know, karmically, that was a good thing to do. Although, you still ended up with the disease so... Oof."
"Oof? Really?" Sicillian let out a dry chuckle at the middle aged detective's conclusion.
"Where is she now?" Hobbs asked.
"We don't know." The brunette woman shrugged. She didn't mean for the shrug to come of as nonchalant or uncaring, more as one of defeat or dismay. There was a lot of defeat and dismay happening to her as of late. She couldn't say she particularly enjoyed it.
