August 15, 12:40am
I have only been in Seattle for three days. The change is huge, and to make matters worse I'm starting middle school. That meant new friends, new places, new teachers, the whole enchilada. I shifted through the unpacked boxes of junk in my room.
"Carmen," I heard a knock on the door "Get ready to go!"
"Go where?"
"Back to School Night!"
I groaned, "Right..."
I remembered the night before when my mom told me about back to school night:
"You might meet some friends there!"
To be honest, I would be surprised if anyone was there.
I got dresses in a boring blue T-shirt and jeans.
"What time does back to school night start?" I called down the hall to my mom.
" it ends at four thirty! It starts at one!" She called back.
I looked at the time it was twelve forty seven... I slept in really late today.
I opened my bedroom door and found my little sister Megan.
"Morning..."
"It afternoon Carmen..."
"right..."
"Hurry up!"
"Okay!!!" Megan and I both called back.
we ran out the door and into the car.
"Why is it so important me go anyways?" I asked
"So that you can meet friends!"
"Yeah but-" I started
"It doesn't matter. we are going!"
"Fine..."
"Drop the attitude!"
I didn't say anything after this.
barley ten minutes later we pulled up at my middle schools parking lot.
"Come on Meg, Carmen..." My mom said unlocking the car doors. I groaned and sulked after my mother into the school.
~~~~~~
"Hello! I'm so very glad to meet you! I'm Mr. Feir.... I will be your math teacher." i looked up at my teacher. One of his front teeth were missing. For some reason this really bothered me.
"Umm... Hi." I managed.
"Oh don't be shy!"
"Umm..."
"Anyways are you new?"
"Yes!" My mom said before I could
Then they went into a very boring conversation... which I zoned out on.
"Carmen!" My mom shouted waving a hand in my face.
"huh... sorry!"
"We are going to your science class now!"
"Oh Sorry!" I muttered
"See you tomorrow Miss Carmen!"
"Bye Mr. Feir..."
"Okay! Now to your Science class! You try to find were it is!" My mom said glancing at my schedule, "It room 304"
I walked through the halls until I found it... room 304.
"Good job!" My mom pushed the door open
"Hello I'm Mr. Mason! I teach science..."
"Hi Mr. Mason!" My Mom said shaking his boney hands
"Are you new to this district miss-"
"Carmen... And yes, She is!" My mom said
"Nice... Well I do NOT tolerate bad behavior. Just to let you know."
"Um... okay."
"Well. best be on your way..." He said shooing them out the door.
"Shouldn't you-" My mom started
"No- No need for that... Have a good day!"
And then we left.
"Okay then... Next you have- Oh! look at the time! I have to take Meg to the Elementary School for her Kindergarden thing..." She handed me my schedule, "Go look around find your classes, meet people, I'll be back in less then thirty minutes... Bye Carmen!" And before I could argue she left.
Well then. I didn't even bother going into my classrooms, I just found them and tried to remember were they are.
With my extra time I went to the library. It was completely empty. I crossed over to the fictional section.
"Why is the fictional section the smallest?" I heard a voice whisper
I shoved a book aside and behind the shelf was a girl. I didn't know whether I should say HI or ignore her. But before I made up my fine she noticed me.
"Hi." She muttered
"Uh, hey."
"Are you new?"
"Yes."
"cool. No one is ever in the library, so I assume your lost."
"N-no... I Know were I am." I said trying to sound like I actully wasn't shy.
"Well... I'm Shawnee." She said. Then she rolled her eyes, "And you are?"
"Oh- I'm Carmen."
"Nice to meet you. No one ever comes to back to school night, or the library."
"So if no one ever comes... why are you here?" I asked
"Because my mom works here... She a teacher. She teaches French."
"Oh."
"Yeah. So do you like to read?"
"Yeah. But..."
"But what?"
"It embarassing..."
"Just tell me!"
"I like to read but I'm dyslectic."
"Oh. Well don't be embarrassed."
"I try not too."
"Anyways I have to go." She said standing up."
"Right, Yeah. Bye Shawnee."
"Bye Carmen. Oh wait! What classes do you have?"
I pulled out my schedule.
"Awesome! We have almost every class together!" She squealed
"Awesome!"
"Yeah. Well see you around."
"Bye!"
And that is how I met my first friend. Or at least I think we are friends. Maybe not. I think so. or at least I hope so. I'll fine out tomorrow I guess..."
