(Red Steve's POV (I like to switch POVs a lot))
We stand in front of the ancient monument, its shadow looming over us like a bad omen. I stare at the closed entrance, willing it to open. The cracked stone stares back indifferently, covered by an assortment of rotting greenery.
"What's it like?" asks Sabre. He seems unsettled, despite not being able to see the ominous temple.
"Big, overgrown, creepy, makes you wish you didn't go out today — typical temple stuff." I answer nonchalantly.
The non-Steve nods in what I believe is appreciation.
"Just a random thought; why is your house made entirely of bricks?"
"Dunno."
We stand there for almost a full minute, as if waiting for something to happen.
"So, are we gonna go in?" He asks. Is it just me, or does he sound bored?
"The door's closed."
"Then open it." He says in a deadpanned voice.
"I would, but," I laugh nervously. "The door's a giant stone wall, so... yeah..."
He facepalms.
"You can walk around if you want, there's nothing that you could really run into or trip over." I say as the awkwardness dissipates.
"I'm facing the door, right?"
"Yes."
Sabre holds his arms out in front of him and starts walking. "Look for anything that could help to open it." says Sabre as he walks towards the wall... door... thing...
He trips over a raised stone.
"Never mind, found it."
"Wha?"
"I think I need so stand here and, um, Open Sesame, I guess?"
"That's not gonna-"
Lightning strikes the ground next to Sabre. He jumps and runs back to me, somehow not falling over.
We, well, I, watch in amazement as the door slides open.
We walk inside, and I try not to think about the fact that the literal blind person opened the door that had stumped me for years... in TWO SECONDS.
Spoiler alert- I fail.
Sabre snaps me out of my shame and misery as he calls for me.
"I can't see, Red, imma need some help here!"
Right, blind. I forgot. Or did I? Wasn't I thinking about it just now? Was I doing both?
Aaaand I'm confusing myself.
I walk over to Sabre and put an arm around his shoulders.
"Got you covered!" I say as I lead Sabre towards the main podium.
"What's there?"
"Just a picture... graph... art... thing..."
He steps forward, and I'm just barely able to stop him from falling off the red carpeted stage.
"So, what now?"
"Now, I explain some stuff."
I give him a quick rundown of the whole deal with the darkness, and then tell him about the prophecy.
"So, basically, I gotta save the world?"
"Yup."
He sighs and hangs his head. "Why does this always happen to me?"
"What does that mea-"
I'm interrupted by a creepy whispering.
"W-what was that?" asks Sabre, who edges closer to me.
In front of me is a horde of the very thing I hoped to never see.
