"So? What are they like?" Trufflehunter the badger asked Trumpkin.
Peter and Caspian led the group of Narnians, discussing the army and fortifications. Glenstorm the centaur was right behind them, carrying himself sharply. Susan walked behind him, a little more casually. Behind her followed Edmund and Y/N, who were laughing at old memories they shared when they were ruling Narnia. They were standing just in front of Trumpkin, Trufflehunter and Nikabrik, another dwarf.
"Malcontents. Complainers. Stubborn as mules in the morning," replied Trumpkin.
"So you like them, then?" said Nikabrik.
"Well enough," Trumpkin muttered, but loud enough for Lucy - who was right behind them - to hear.
As the large group reached the end of the wood, they stood at the edge of an open plain. A great mound was in the centre of the plain. It was almost three times the size of the trees in height. The five Kings and Queens walked together with Caspian, all very excited internally. Gracious smiles adorned their faces. They passed beneath a pair of pillars and began walking towards the cave-like hill. Centaurs stood on opposing sides, welcoming the Pevensies and Y/N by holding up their swords to form an arch.
The five Kings and Queens of Old paused, an odd sensation filling them each up. It was a sweet sensation - it reminded them of their times in Narnia, the best times of their lives. But it was mixed with a strange bitterness, not allowing them to fully welcome the solemnity of the moment. Still, they were happier than they had realised, even if they did not show it on their faces. Y/N felt like her heart was crying, and she knew the others felt it too. Sentimentality took over her mind and she locked hands with Edmund.
Finally, Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy and Y/N walked forward, Caspian walking slightly behind them. The five of them looked at each other in excitement - or whatever it was they were feeling. But the richness of the moment was cut short by the clanging of metal. As they walked into the 'how', they saw all around them creatures - fauns, satyrs, centaurs, dwarves and animals - working on weapons. Torches lit up the cave well and brightly. Peter, Edmund and Y/N looked around, Susan and Lucy having gone ahead of them.
"It may not be what you are used to, but it is defensible," said Caspian.
"Peter," called Susan, "You may want to see this."
They walked into a segment of the cave, following Susan. Peter held a torch, its flames giving light to drawings engraved on the walls.
Susan and Lucy riding on Aslan's back.
The five of them, standing beside their thrones.
Mr Tumnus, next to the lamp post, holding his umbrella while his scarf flew in the wind.
"It's us," said Y/N, a gasp hiding in her voice.
"What is this place?" asked Lucy.
"You don't know?" said Caspian, obviously surprised.
Looking at their confused faces, he took another torch off the wall and continued further into the cave, the others following him. Somewhere along the way, it got darker and Edmund also had to hold up a torch.
They finally came to a large room and Caspian walked to a corner, while the others looked around. It was too dark to see much, but Caspian soon took care of that. He dipped his torch in a little gutter and the fire spread around the room, carried by the small trench that ran around them in a circle. But everyone's gaze stopped in the middle of the room. A large picture of Aslan was etched into the wall, between two thick, rock pillars. And below it was the Stone Table.
Y/N felt sick to her stomach, remembering the events that had occured the last time she had seen it. Lucy stepped forward slowly - nobody else had dared to. She walked up to the Stone Table, reaching out to touch it. She turned around to face the others.
"He must know what he's doing."
Everybody looked at Lucy in silence.
"I think it's up to us now," said Peter, swallowing thickly.
