Gab rushes into action, listing off orders to the woman before shutting the door and quickly packing our stuff.
"What are we going to do?" I ask, helplessly watching as he rushes around the room throwing our things into my travel bag.
"We aren't going to do anything," he says as he buttons up the bag.
My mind pauses with a start. What does he mean, we aren't doing anything. I voice my thoughts. He huffs a strained laugh.
"I mean what I said, Sarah, you aren't coming with me," he shoots back. He walks past me, going for the door. I try to make eye contact with him but he looks straight ahead. I grab his arm and yank him to a stop.
"HEY!" I yell.
He stops and looks at me and I see what he was trying to hide. His face breaks and I understand. His home is being attacked, and he's here. His pack, his family, is being attacked and he's feeling survivor's guilt already. He has the responsibility of the lives of thousands. The responsibility... Christ.
I take his hand in both of mine and take it to my lips, giving it a quick kiss and nod.
"Okay," I say, "do what you need to do, I'll follow your lead."
His shoulder's relax a fraction. His eyes showing his relief.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," he chants and leans forward, kissing my forehead.
I nod at him and smile softly. He needs a support system right now, and I can do that- be that for him.
"Go," I motion to the door, "I'll get changed and come meet you," I say.
He gives me a peck before he rushes out of the room. I stand there for a moment, letting everything settle. Such change is a split second, one moment it was bliss and the next chaos.
I shake my head to release the thoughts and get ready. I wear a loose white dress that goes to my knees and leave my golden hair down. I look in the mirror and see a pink flower appear and rest on my ear. It's so strange, to have such an interactive deity but I love it all the same. It makes me wonder if the Deities back on Earth are this interactive, just humanity has slowly started to ignore the signs.
I leave the room and walk down the halls. People rush past me, only giving me a nod or a quick bow before going back to work. It doesn't take me long to find Gab as I follow the thread of our mating bond. He's outside, talking to his warriors. The first thing I notice is how tense he is, every muscle in his body seems to be on edge. He stops talking and turns to me as I approach him. He gives me a quick kiss and pulls me to his side with his arm around my waist. This feels so natural, him and I. I tune into what he is saying and as I listen I understand two things.
Firstly, the Rogues are gathering in larger groups making them more dangerous. The one thing we could count on was their inability to be in large sizes and now we don't even have that.
And Secondly, we may very well be thoroughly fucked if I don't figure out how to control my powers.
"We are leaving in five minutes everyone, say goodbye to your loved ones while you can." Gab tells his men then turns to me.
I rest my forehead against his and breath his scent in deeply. He closes his eyes and does the same.
"I wish we could have had more time, Amore. I'm sorry," he whispers.
"Shhhh, you have nothing to apologise for. Your people- Our people are hurt and you need to help them. I'll be here when you get back," I tell him, smiling slightly at his growl of approval when I say 'our people'.
"You promise?" He asks, holding me tighter to his body.
He opens his eyes and I smile lovingly up at his forest green eyes."I promise," I vow.
He pulls me in for a heated kiss and I happily return it. I pull back when I finally need air and look deeply into his eyes. I absolutely hate saying goodbye, especially since the last time I said goodbye to the man I loved, I was transported to another world. I put my head between the dip of his shoulder and neck, hugging him tightly. I resist the tears burning in my eyes. No, this won't be like last time. He will be alright, the Goddess will look over him. I have faith in that.
Gab strokes the back of my head and that nearly has me undone there. I pull back and swallow down my emotions.
"You come back to me Gabriel, I will not loose you too!" My voice breaks at the end and I squeeze my eyes shut.
I will not cry.
I will not cry.
I will not cry.
"Sarah... please don't cry" Gab begs.
I open my eyes and see understanding on his face. I take a deep breath and panic grips my heart, everyone around us is closes off their goodbyes. It's time.
"You promise me now, promise you'll come back to me," I choke.
He grabs my face in his hands and strokes my cheeks.
"We'll always find our way back to each other, that I promise," Gab pledges.
I nod, once, twice and step away from his warmth. His hands flex as if the loose of contact feels wrong.
The warriors group together and look to Gab. I make eye contact with Lukas.
"Take care of my Ladies Lukas, and... take care of him," I say with pure command in my voice, the voice of an Alpha.
He nods in his wolf form, his chest puffing a little. Gab shifts into his midnight form and trots over to me. I brush my fingers through his night soft fur, his chest rumbles in approval.
"Don't do anything stupid," I say as way of goodbye. Gab nudges my hand and licks it. I laugh and shake my head.
He turns to his warriors and howls long and deep before sprinting off into the woods. His body nothing but a blur of black.
The group of warriors run after him. It takes mer seconds for them to vanish. I let out of shaky sigh. A warm hand rests on my shoulder and I look to see Ayla standing there with her red haired mate.
"He will be find, Moon Daughter," she reassures.
I look back into the forest once more, hoping to see Gab running back to me, but I won't because he has to help our people. It's no time to be selfish, not when so many are hurt or dead.
"So, what do we do now?" I ask Ayla.
"Well, we could do nothing and wait for the Alpha to come back, or we could start your training," she explains. I turn to look at her and see the challenge in her eyes. I take her hand from my shoulder and squeeze it. Ayla smirks as she sees the answer in my eyes. I say it out loud, loving the words.
"Show me what it means to be a Child of the Moon."
