Nothing happened, I realized I wasn't dead yet. I opened my eyes to find the corpse that had been chasing me, was lying on the ground beside me, his head blown to bits. How could this have been? I looked up to see a girl holding out her hand to me, offering to help me up. She had auburn hair and was holding a shotgun. I took her hand and she helped me to my feet.

"Hi, my name is Norah, are you okay?" She asked worried.

At that moment Chase came running into the room and right into my arms, hugging me while he cried.

"Yes, I am now." I said holding
my brother a little tighter. "Thank you so much for saving me just now, how did you find me?" I said gratefully.

"I'm traveling with a group of survivors;we were passing through the city, when we heard your screams. We are heading north to reach a place called Base 12, it was set up by the military. A safe place with more survivors, it has crops, water, medical and shelter. Would you like to join us on our mission? It looks like you could use all the help you can get."

"I'm doing just fine on my own! Does it not look like I have everything is under control!" I boasted a little more defensively then I meant it to be.

"Yeah you look like you have it all under control," she said sarcastically, "If under control, you mean ready to be eaten by an infected corpse! This is no way to treat someone who just took the time out of her own life, to come save you!" She turned away from me, and started to head toward the front door of the apartment.

I hesitated thinking of how I never wanted to work with others, and how I couldn't handle being responsible for any more deaths, but when my little brother looked up at me with those big blue eyes of his, I knew I had to do it, for his sake. Before she got no more than half way out the door, I ran after her, stopping her mid step.

"Okay, I'm sorry, I really am grateful you were here to save me, and my little brother at that. We have just been through so much, and I don't think I can handle being responsible for any more deaths. I really need your help though, I realize that I can't survive on my own as well as I thought I could, especially when It's not just me I have to watch out for. Can you forgive me?" I said in my most apologetic voice.

"I understand, it hasn't been easy for anyone around here. Come with us, so you can see how much better life is when you have good people watching out for eachother." Norah Insisted
