Between The Lines

The whole weekend, I just stayed in bed, watching movies, cleaning, and organizing my room and my collections. I wanted to keep myself busy, you know? I still hadn’t told Kuya about Zayne, but I’m pretty sure he already knows. He has his sources everywhere. But whatever. He’ll find out eventually.

There’s only two weeks left before graduation, and my parents are coming back this Friday. I’m excited to see them, but… I’m not sure if I’m ready to deal with everything else.

I’m walking towards the classroom now. Woke up late, so I told my friends not to wait for me.

I step inside the room and head straight to my seat. I can feel the eyes on me, so I glance at them as I sit down.

"Musta?" Kylie asks with a smile, and I return the grin.

"Okay lang. Busy ako nung weekend" I reply, smiling. Then I look at the others.

"Ngayon lang to, medyo na late lang ng gising" I add with my signature smile.

"Nagpakabusy para di maisip si Zayne" Kylie whispers, and I raise an eyebrow.

"Sino? Zayne? Sino yon? May kilala ba akong Zayne?" I tease, glancing away. She chuckles and hits my thigh.

"Loka ka, HAHAHAHA, ang aga-aga pinapatawa mo ko, Lou" she says between laughs.

"Bakit? Ikaw, may kilala ka bang Zayne?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"Zayne? Sino? Wala ata. Baka si Jaxon meron. Jaxon! May kilala ka bang Zayne?" Kylie asks, and we both look at Jaxon, who’s now confused. But when he looks back at us, he gets it.

"Huh? Zayne? Wala eh. Baka si Sean. Sean! Diba kaibigan mo yung Zayne?" Jaxon says, and we all glance at Sean, who’s just as confused.

"Kaibigan? Loko. Di ako yun, baka ibang tao tinutukoy mo. Tanungin mo si Logan, baka kilala niya yung hayup na yon" Sean says, and now, me and Kylie are laughing while looking at Logan, waiting for her response.

"Magsitigil nga kayo. Wala naman tayong kilalang Zayne ah. Meron ba? Diba wala naman" Logan says dryly, and we all burst out laughing.

"Limot agad ah" Kylie chuckles.

"One mistake is enough" Logan says.

"It's already a few mistakes tho" Jaxon adds, and we all nod in agreement.

We stop talking as the teacher arrives. The rest of the class is spent listening to lessons, doing seatwork, and trying to focus despite everything on my mind.

Lunchtime

We’re in the cafeteria now, eating and chatting about random stuff. Then Jaxon looks at me with that look.

"What?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"Yan ka nanaman. Tinatago ang nararamdaman" he says with a small chuckle. I just sigh and roll my eyes.

"Oy Lou. May gusto ata kumausap sayo" Kylie says, glancing behind me. I turn around and see Zayne standing there.

"Uh, pwede ba kita makausap?" he asks with a nervous smile.

"Okay" I reply and stand up. We leave the cafeteria and head to the garden. I cross my arms as I face him.

"Uhmm, about that day when I asked you to hang out... something came up, so I didn’t get to meet you" he explains, but I already know the reason.
