Under the luminous moon lies Sunghoon, looking aimlessly above. His back is pressed against the grass, and as the cold air continues to brush his face, he remains silent.

Blood moon.

Instead of being pure white, the moon was painted with tints of red today, surrounded by an air of emptiness, only pitch black surrounding it. The stars are nowhere to be found, and it seems that as of now, their gleaming radiance has vanished.

A heavy feeling weighs in his chest as he silently contemplates his current predicament. During instances where the blood moon occurs, vampires immediately grow weaker, being more susceptible to attacks. The sole reason most of them are in hideout during this time.

It’s been three weeks since he’s last seen you, felt your touch, basked in your warmth.

Sunghoon has honestly forgotten how it felt like–the fervent kisses, the ardent heat radiating from your arms as you pull him closer, tighter. The memory of you felt so distant, yet reminiscent. Like an arms’ worth apart, but still seeming like the farthest star from the sky.

You probably detest him by now, for leaving with no final regards, with no proper closure. But he feels like if he lets himself stay for much longer, he wouldn’t be able to help himself. The time was nearing, and he’s had to leave.

He did this so he wouldn’t have a chance to hurt you, and to let himself get hurt too.

Yet it seems quite hypocritical when he finds himself in an area where he was the most vulnerable to encountering vampire hunters.

Still, in moments like these, he’s thinking of you.

What would you think, how would your perception of him change? Would you turn to hate him? After he’d fed you lie after lie, after he’s showered you with false excuses?

If you ever uncover his true form, if you’ve ever seen the fangs that he’s been concealing behind his lips, would you run away?

Of course, you would. Humans are fickle creatures. Once you see his true self, you'd immediately leave you behind.

It rumbled his mind, brimming with many worries. He’s neglected the thought of being possibly hunted down and instead has turned to thinking about you.

As if he’s manifested your presence, he doesn’t even realize it until he hears your voice, which ultimately cuts him off from his reverie. “Hoon.” As if it was a breathless whisper, he doubts himself for a moment, initially blaming it on his bloodlust.

But once he looks up, he eventually realizes that it was really you. Standing in front of him with a frozen stance.

You noticed something different about him. His eyes, which were once black, were now red—closely resembling the blood moon.

He immediately jolts up from seeing you and hides his face in his knees, avoiding eye contact with you. “Stay away!” You step back, being startled by his aggressive tone.

You had never seen Sunghoon this way. It was a huge contrast from his prim and proper nature. The version of him in front of you was far different. But you continue walking up towards him, disregarding his warnings.

From seeing the colors of his eyes, you knew that something was going on. Something far more complex than just a ‘needed break’.

“Don’t look at me!” You hear him yell, shaky, disoriented.

Your feet still drag you closer to him, watching his hunched figure. Momentary silence ensues, and you continue to question the sight that you had just witnessed.

Deep inside, you are sure of it. You know. But you just can’t bring yourself to acknowledge the truth.

“Sunghoon are you a. . ?” You start, not knowing how to continue. He doesn’t answer and keeps still like a stone figure.

“I just want you to leave, [Y/N].” He utters. “I don’t want you to see me like this.”

Being hard headed, you lean even closer, cupping his chin. You softly tilt his gaze upwards and stare into his red eyes. His eyes, which resembled the gleam of clear glass, were now coated with tears.

He’s crying.

After you scan his entire face and confirm he’s fine, you release a sigh of relief and press a gentle peck on his mole that was near his eye.

So gentle. Loving. Filled with only adoration and love.

His heart immediately thrums in his chest. He’s basically dead, but you, only you make him feel as if he’s alive again. He says nothing, too caught up in his own emotions to let any words slip from his lips.

The next words you say are unexpected, shocking even.

“You are so beautiful, Hoon.” Caressing his cheek, you keep rubbing circles onto them. It’s the most comfort that he has ever felt in a while, and he can’t believe the words that are falling from your mouth at this instant.

Beautiful? When has a monster like him ever been beautiful? He’s holding his bloodlust right now, trying not to be blinded by his uncontrollable desires.

No human in their right mind has ever seen him and told him how beautiful he was. He’s perplexed at your reaction. You didn’t run away as he had expected. You didn’t cry nor pushed him away.

It scared him. He was absolutely terrified of losing you. But he knows that pushing you away would hurt far less than hearing your callous words.

Yet instead, here you were seated in front of him, cupping his face. Murmuring words of comfort.

“Has anyone ever told you that your eyes resemble the moon?” You continue to stare into his eyes. “They shine as brightly as them too.”

He can’t keep up with all your words. “And why were you telling me to leave, huh? How am I going to fulfill our promise of staying together forever when you are pushing me away?”

“Because there is no forever. Those are just empty promises, [Y/N]. Even if you wanted to stay with me forever, you’ll leave me soon. Whether you chose to or not.”

Pressing a finger to your lips, you shake your head. “We won’t talk about it right now.” Just as you shoot him a smile, you also say, “All I know, and all that I want, is to love you in this lifetime.”

Humans are foolish. Truly.

Just as you will continue to love him foolishly, and hopelessly. Sunghoon hopes to do the same.

He doesn’t like thinking about a future where you aren’t by his side, but in your words, there is forever. And that is enough to give him hope.
