Chapter 2: New Recruit

*BEEP BEEP BEEP*

I rolled over and hit my alarm off, crawling out of bed. My head hurt, but nothing a painkiller and water wont fix. I got in the shower and cleaned off the smell of alcohol that lingered on my breath as I brushed my teeth. I got changed into my training clothes and walked into the kitchen.

It was 6am and usually no one is around the living quarters, either training or sleeping. I saw Bucky sat at the kitchen island drinking coffee and eating some cereal. I smiled at him again, "morning" I said gently. He slowly nodded; a very small smile graced his lips. I turned to face the other counter and started making my smoothie breakfast bowl. I sat down on the seat next to Bucky, I saw him tense again and then relax a few seconds later. I stood up and I reached for the magazine Nat left on the table. I saw a newspaper for today left on the side. Steve is an old man. I picked it up too and walked back to the kitchen island. 

I sat down next to Bucky again and slid the newspaper to him on the countertop. He turned his head to look at me and we locked eyes for a second before he looked down at the newspaper. I turned my attention to the magazine and smoothie bowl. Just as I picked up my spoon to eat my breakfast I heard a small, quiet "Thank you" from Bucky as he began to turn the page to the newspaper. I smiled to myself slightly and replied back softly "Its alright".

I finished my smoothie bowl and walked over to the counter to brew my coffee. I asked Bucky if he wanted another but he shook his head in response. Just as I was about to sit back down to drink my coffee I heard FRIDAY announce to the room "Good morning Miss Y/L/N, Mr Stark is just arriving outside, he left you a message 'you better be up and ready Y/N. I'm trusting you on this'" I rolled my eyes playfully and made my way to the doors at the front of the building.

I saw in the distance a loud sports car making its way to the base. I lent up against the railing as the car pulled up next to me. Tony opened the door and walked towards me. "Y/L/N meet Peter Parker". A youngish boy stepped out the car, looking around the avengers facility in utter awe. "Hey kid" I said happily, walking towards him. I extended my hand and he shook it excitedly. "I want you to introduce him to you and your powers before he meets anyone else on the team. Give him a crash course in avenging." Tony instructed me. "Nice to see you too, Tony" I said as I pulled him in for a playful hug. "Yeah, yeah; lets skip the formalities, just get him ready" he said sassily, putting his sunglasses on as he got back into his car and made his way to the main building block. "Come on Parker, well go into the training area in the woods, the rest of the avengers won't see you then." I said as I swung my arms over his shoulders guiding an excited Peter towards the woods.

Once we arrived at the woods, I told him to stand off to the side. The training area in the woods was similar to a farm, quite lowkey and hardly ever used. It was, however, ideal for my powers to train in. We were surrounded my steel walls with slight curve over the top of the walls, creating a small roof around the perimeter of the training zone. "So, Peter, I'll show you my powers and then we can assess what to work on with you?" I questioned rhetorically. Peter nodded quickly. "I'm what's called an element-wielder, I can control the elements to my will. Shall we start with fire?" Peter's eyes widened as I moved my hands facing palms up, burning flames erupted from them and I turned to my left and pushed my hands outwards, throwing the fire balls at some metal figures that are lined up along the side to practice on. "Woah" Peter commented as I continued to demonstrate my fire powers.

"Now there is water. Its important to understand what powers you have and how to use them against your opponent. As much as it is nice to belief what we do is just pure fighting and skill, but most of it is down to the agents that identify our opponents and the time we take as avengers to learn their weaknesses." I said as I caused it to rain around me but not on me or near Peter. Then I explained how it was far more useful of a power near large bodies of water.

"And now, earth" I turned my palms to face the ground and green ivy plants erupted through the ground twisting up into the air. I smirked as an idea popped into my head. I turned my palms to face Peter and the vines warped around him, lifting him up into the air. Peters face was panic stricken. "Woah! Woah! Woah!" Peter screamed. "Get out of this" I instructed. I saw his face changed; he went into fighting zone. Impressively quickly. He struggled for a second, but when he realised that the vines got tighter whenever he tried to resist, he calmed down and within a few seconds he had escaped and hand my hands webbed behind me. I smiled proudly whilst nodding my head approvingly, "Well done kid. Very good job" I spoke approvingly. That was before escaping with ease. Of course, I went easy on him, confidence is important if balanced well with realism. It's the one thing I believe heavily in.

"Finally, there is air." I said as I twisted my wrists and pushed my palms down to the ground and I flew up in the air. I opened my mouth and blew out across the metal figures I fired up earlier, a huge gust of wind left my mouth, causing them falling over. "No way! That's so cool" exclaimed Peter excitedly. I smiled as I dropped back down, "If our training goes well today, I'll help you fly" I suggested while mirroring Peter's wide smile.

*Time skip to after the training and helping Peter fly*

Peter and I made our way back to the living quarters, smiling and laughing. He was good company, he reminded me of the little brother I'd never had. I took him to his new room where all his bags were and left him to unpack.
