It was lunch time the next day. Steve, Thor, Nat and Tony were leaving to go on a long-term mission in Germany for a while, so the base felt emptier. Wanda and Vision were away for the weekend so it was even emptier. Banner was also away on a scientific convention in New York.

It was the summer, so the bad weather we had been having was incredibly unusual. I had tried to go on a run this morning but it was pouring down with rain so I had to settle for boxing instead. I came into the living quarters for lunch when I saw Peter sat on the floor staring out the window as the raindrops ran down the glass. "You alright Kid?" I asked him as his head snapped around at the sound of my voice. "Yeah, I just wish I could help Mr Stark and the others" he said despondently as he got up quickly and sat at the kitchen island across from me. "Oh Peter, you don't need to worry about that. They'll be just fine. And soon you will be going on loads of missions with all of us. I promise." I smiled reassuringly at him as he looked at me, returning my smile. "Would you like me to make you a sandwich for lunch?" I asked him as I got the food out of the fridge. "Yes please Miss Y/L/N" Peter replied to me. I looked at him with a glint in my eye and a soft smiled, "Please, call me Y/N".

After Peter and I finished our lunch, Sam came over and took Peter to the main building block for his upgraded suit fitting. I looked out the window of my room as I read my book. I heard a small knock on my door. I crinkled my forehead in confusion, I thought no one was home? I stood up and walked over to the door. I opened it and no one was there. My forehead crinkled more and I looked to my left. No one. Then to my right. I saw a dark figure walking away. "Bucky!" I shouted after the figure. He spun around and looked at me. My forehead relaxed and I looked at him curiously. I waited for him to say something but he just looked at me. After what felt like forever I piped up "Did you knock on my door?", he looked at me intensely and then shook his head no. I nodded slowly and walked back into my room, very confused.

After about an hour, the storm picked up, thunder and lightning crashing and lighting up the sky, rain hitting violently against the windows. Then, a huge crash of lightning hit the house and the lights flickered and turned off. I leaped up and turned my palms upwards, fire lighting up my hands. I ran out the room into the corridor, frantically looking around me. I ran into the living space and saw Peter hidden into a blanket "Miss Y/N, are we safe?" he looked at me with wide eyes. "Yes Peter, I think the lightning strike just took down out electric so we should be fine, I just wanted to check no one was hurt." I told him reassuringly as I knelt down next to him. "Are you ok if I leave you to check the rest of the building?" I asked him. He nodded calmly.

I walked away from Peter and made my way to medical. As I turned the corner I saw Sam in my office chair, spinning around. "So I see you're fine" I said as he smiled cockily at me. "Always, just a bit of lightning" Sam said spinning whilst fiddling with a new suit prototype I was working on. "Don't break anything" I scolded him playfully as I ran down the stairs to the training rooms. I turned the corner and saw Bucky punching the boxing bag in the corner of the room. "Hey Bucky, are you alright?" I asked him. It was very dark and I couldn't see much. I lit my other hand with the fire and approached him. "Yeah" he said continuing to box. I raised my brows and turned around. I made my way to the supplies box and pulled out some candles. I lit one with my fingertip and placed it on the ground next to him. He looked at me for a second and averted his gaze back to the boxing bag. I then left him to it.

An hour later and it still hadn't got any better. The electric wouldn't work and the storm was getting worse if that was even possible. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water. I sat down and lit the candle on the kitchen island. I took a sip of water and then looked over to the doorway, Bucky stood there awkwardly. I nodded at him and he came in slowly. He sat down next to me and fiddled with his hands. I watched him carefully, I looked at his face and saw his eyes filled with anxiety. I waited a moment, weighing up my options, but I decided with the method I knew worked. I reached out my hand, opening it palm side up. He looked at my hand, then at me, then back to my hand. Then he placed his hand in mine. I gave it a small, reassuring squeeze. I let go a second later and stood up and began to leave, but when I got to the doorway I paused and turned back to Bucky. "Are you sure you're alright?" I inquired. He looked at me for a second and reluctantly nodded. I evaluated his response and then said, "If you would like to come and watch a movie on my laptop in my room you are more than welcome. My laptop is fully charged so its basically the only source of entertainment until the morning when we can fix the electrics." I rambled nervously. I wasn't sure how he would reply. He seemed so closed off to everyone but Cap and Sam that I was unsure of how he might react. He stared at me then nodded slowly. I turned on my heel and walked back to my room.

I snuggled into a blanket and turned on my laptop. Just as I was about to press play, there was a knock on my door. "Come in" I replied. Bucky slowly opened the door and stepped into my room slowly. I smiled widely at him and beckoned him in with my hand. He came over to me and I patted the bed. He nervously sat down on the bed.

*Time skip to after the movie*

A crash of thunder roared and I saw Bucky tense quickly. "Hey, you alright?" I looked at him concerned. He looked like he was searching for an answer. I waited patiently until he looked at me properly. "I don't like thunder and lightning" He said warily. I was taken aback by his words. "It's ok Bucky, I'm glad you told me", I said softly. The thunder crashed again and Bucky retreated deeper within himself. So I decided to do something that could potentially go really bad. I moved closer to him and pulled him into a hug. He was tense for a second until he accepted it, relaxing a bit. After a minute of hugging, we pulled apart, "If you need anything – anything at all – just come and find me." I spoke.

After Bucky left I snuggled into bed and fell asleep.
