Sadly, I have not shifted yet. At least, not intentionally. I know that I have shifted once, but it was by accident and because of this it was very brief.
For context, I am a big Skyrim enthusiast and I have many many mods for skyrim, including a follower mod called Kaidan 2.0. Kaidan is a great follower who both my sibling and I have gotten attached to and he had something to do with my first shifting experience.
What happened: I am unfortunately a frequent lucid dreamer, and I say "unfortunately" because this is not something I do intentionally and it keeps me from getting any real sleep. So I was having a dream where I was semi-aware of the fact that I was dreaming. True, that this may not qualify as an actual lucid dream, but that's besides the point. In the dream, I was in a classroom, in the ugliest pajamas I own. For some reason, Kaidan was there and I was very embarrassed to be caught IN PUBLIC in these ugly ass pjs. I'm naturally a very anxious person, so being judged by someone I respect and adore became a source of panic and I wanted to leave the classroom. I looked out the window in front of me, wishing to be somewhere else and trying to move myself anywhere but that classroom. I looked out the window and the sun was rising over some very tall trees. Blinded by the light, I closed my eyes and covered my face. When I opened my eyes just a moment later I was in a snowy tundra staring into the sunrise over snow-covered trees. Unfortunately, I was so startled by this sudden transition that I brought myself back to my CR (current reality, for anyone who might not know).
What that brief moment was like: It was beautiful, and I think about it every day. I was somehow innately aware that I was in fact traveling Skyrim. I was also aware of a strong and comforting presence just a few feet to my right and a bit behind me. Somehow I was very much aware of the fact that it was Kaidan. Everything was far too clear to be a dream, even a lucid dream. As someone who regularly has actual lucid dreams, this was nothing like it. I could see the trees and the sun and the snow so clearly, I could see the individual needles on the pine trees where they weren't covered in snow. The air was cold and sharp but whatever armor I was wearing kept me from feeling too much of the cold. Sadly, I came back to this reality because I was startled by the sudden shift. Sometimes I still wonder if it was only just a dream, but there's no way I could have dreamt so vividly. Even lucid dreams feel foggy to a certain degree, and nothing about this felt dream-like. Unfortunately, random lucid dreams are far less common for me now, and when I do lucid dream I tend to wake myself up before I get the chance to attempt shifting using the lucid dreaming method. And when I do try to shift using the lucid dream method, it's a struggle for me.
When it comes to shifting intentionally, I have gotten very close, but haven't done it successfully yet. Still trying though. It's been several months but I haven't lost hope. And to anyone else struggling with shifting, no matter how long it has taken you thus far, you can shift. You can go home and experience everything you've ever dreamed of too. I believe in you :)
Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I know what I've written isn't much so far but it's all a work in progress, thanks for understanding :)
