The next day, Phoenix and Yoru are putting on Killjoy's suits again, the ribbed material cold and stiff. Yoru frowned as Phoenix hummed to himself, already feeling a spark of annoyance pulsing behind his eyes. He cursed whatever higher being had decided to put the two of them together, as Yoru couldn't imagine in his wildest dreams how they'd actually work together.
Stuck deep in his own thoughts, he jumped when a hand grabbed at the back zip he was struggling with. Yoru whipped around to see a smirking Phoenix.
"Do you want to die?" He snarled, ears going red as the other's left hand braced itself on his waist.
"Stop whining and let me help, you've been struggling with this for like two minutes, man," Phoenix huffed a laugh as the gliding of the zip filled the silence of the room. He patted Yoru's waist absentmindedly, only to get his fingers smacked away with force.
Defensively, he raised his hands with a shameless grin, backing away at Yoru's death glare, "You have some nerve assuming I needed help."
"Relax a little, we're friends right?"
"Friends, my ass."
Phoenix trailed after Yoru's back as he stalked off into position and gave his gun a final wipe before pocketing it, arms crossed and eyes closed. With the sun shining behind them, Phoenix appreciated the soft glow it gave the other man's profile, high cheeks bones glowing with warmth and eyes looking serene as if he were asleep.
The countdown timer echoed around the silent space. With only the wind gently rustling the leaves, Phoenix turned to his companion.
"So what's the plan, G?"
Yoru looked at the map, the massive shipping containers scattered around to create a maze of hiding places. Tracing a finger around the holographic map, he pointed out possible locations they could go.
"You go right and check out this area. It's more of an open space, so your bird brain won't burn it down."
Phoenix made a sound of protest, to which Yoru ignored.
"I'll stay around to the left, near one of these," he indicated to multiple vantage points that overlooked his area clearly, "If you see someone, use the intercom immediately."
Yoru rolled his eyes towards Phoenix, "And don't use it to chatter, I'm not interested in the dumb shit that comes out your mouth."
Phoenix's dark eyes widened, mouth dropping as Yoru broke open his portal.
"That was brutal as hell," Phoenix watched as Yoru shrugged him off, one leg in the blue abyss, "You're just gonna leave me with that? Mate?"
The blue jacket vanished, reality sealing itself up along the thin scar suspended in the air.
Phoenix cursed, running off to the right and pushing at his earpiece.
"Yoru?"
Static hummed in his ears, deeper than usual. The thud of his footsteps was loud as he jogged past makeshift alleys.
"Phoenix, do you have poor memory? Did you really forget what I just said?"
He reached the courtyard Yoru had pointed out, looking through the scope of his gun to survey the area.
"There's no point in being sneaky if you're not even bothering to walk quietly, you know."
"Now who's using the intercom to 'chatter'? That's just a tad bit hypocritical."
"It's not gossip, you matchstick. It's advice."
Phoenix lifted a brow, creeping into the open space, "You should know that 'quiet' isn't really my modus operandi."
