Brooke's POV
I gaze up at Nick. He takes a flower from the ground, and tucks it into my hair. I smile. Nick's fingers intertwine with mine and we continue to walk down the street.
The crickets chirp quietly in the background. It's like a romantic movie.
"I'm sorry I haven't seen you in so long." Nick says.
"We haven't been together since I was grounded." I reply matter-of-factly.
"I haven't seen any of you Hylands since the big loss."
I inhale sharply, "Don't even speak of it. I swear, I've never seen Josh hate hockey before, but two weeks ago, my dad went completely psycho on him. He wants to quit."
Nicks POV
I'm shocked.
Josh is an amazing hockey player. He eats sleeps and breathes the sport. He LIVES to play.
"But enough about him." Brooke says, wrapping her arms around my neck. I wrap my arms around her waist.
"You came to see me."
And with that, we're kissing by the side of the road, on a warm August evening. Like something on a TV show.
We're both sticky at least I feel hot in the humid, summer night air. Neither of us cares.
This is our last summer of freedom. Next year we'll be Seniors.
We'll move away to college.
Different colleges.
We need to talk about college.
