Chapter 26

Vera's POV:

I finally got cleared after being in the hospital for 6 hours, they wheeled me into my room after all the testing and Colby was still there, sleeping, peacefully. I felt bad to have to wake him, but I was so ready to leave,"Uh hey, Colby," I gently shook him,"Hey, I'm clear, we can finally get out of here..." I spoke softly

He opened his eyes slightly and smiled, just before he could speak Daniel entered the room,"Uh hey Vera, could we talk?" I looked at Colby who was now wide awake,"In private please," he added"

"Yeah...sure." I gave Colby a reassuring smile before I got up

Before Daniel could say I word, I spoke up,"We dated for a year, I liked you...but I'm..." a smile grew on my face and I knew what I was about to say, wasn't pretend,"I'm in love with Colby...goodbye Daniel." He didn't day anything back, he gave a weak smile and left.

We packed up my things and made our way to the waiting room, Claire, Sam, Corey and Jake's faces lit up when they saw us. "Are you okay!?" Claire asked concerned

"Yep, I got some antibiotics but I'm good...really." We all started making our way to the cars, everything felt strange, almost like the ending of an era. Before we got into the cars I spoke up,"Wait, what now." We all had forgotten where we came from in the first place, everything that has happened to us came flooding back...

"Do we, go back?" Jake asked hesitantly

"I vote we call reception and ask if they can send our stuff down and then we leave," Corey said

I looked over at Colby who was halfway into the car, the words that came out of my mouth was even surprising to me,"I actually agree..."

Everyone was shocked. "You don't want to go back and figure everything out?" Claire questioned

"I do, I really do, It's just, not now...I feel drained and I'm sure you all do to. This was fun and adventurous and exciting, but it was also horrifying and painful and I think...I think we need to take a step back before we make the next move..."

Everybody was sleep deprived and stressed and just scared, Colby shook his head in agreement with me, and the rest followed in doing so.

Driving off a weird feeling came over me, I looked back at our whole trip and everything that went wrong, but I was happy, happy to have met these people, happy to have seen Blake one last time. I had a lot of unanswered questions but for now I was okay with not knowing, for now I accepted that I don't have to figured everything out at this moment... I knew that our journey had ended, but I also knew that the next was just around the corner.
