Xander:
We were all sitting on the side of one of the training grounds, the scenery of Olympus High breath-taking as ever. The forest trees around swaying with the little bit of wind that was blowing. Students were practicing their powers, while some were just simply practicing their combat and fighting skills. I was watching two guys practice their defense while controlling their powers; they were juniors by how sloppy their moves were and how they left half sides of their bodies open for attack. I wished I could just let go of my powers sometime, but I knew better. Losing control of something that holds the power to destroy everything around you, including the people you love is not something simple, and we all knew better. This is one of the main reasons why all us demigods, or those who carried powers were to enrolled a school only for us. Yet, I knew that I still had to be very careful while displaying my powers especially when we are training. Sometimes why powers are not a blessing, but I guess it's just a game of your fate, isn't it?
I snap out of my thoughts and look around me, Chase is being all cuddly with Nina and Nico and Drake having a debate on which spell was better to defend yourself from an oncoming tsunami, lame I know. When both Drake and Nico turned towards me and gave me a glare, I realized I had said that out loud, oh shit! But honestly who cares, when you have Poseidon's daughter as your friend what do you have to worry for? So, I just shrugged and when Nico gave stuck his tongue out to me, I just rolled my eyes at his childish behaviour. He could act so childish at one moment and then so feisty the next. He made me want to either punch him or hug him, but I really couldn't act on either of my instincts.
Just as I was about to tease Chase for the bright orange jacket, he was wearing today a guy ran towards us, panting. He was one of the juniors since the insignia he was wearing on the left side of his chest right beneath his collarbone was made of bronze. The juniors, or half-bloods who were newly admitted had the bronze insignia, seniors or final graduates like us had insignia forged with gold, and we hardly ever wore it randomly. The junior came to a stop right in front of me and took a deep breath before speaking, "Are you Xander Reyes?"
I nodded my head in response and he continued, "the head master is calling you in the senior lounge, there is someone to meet you."
I immediately knew who it might be and I tensed up, because if my guess was right this was not good news, so, before he could say anything else I stood up and said out loud, "Chase, Nina come on I think I know who it is," before I could continue Nico spoke up, "What not going to invite us big boy? I thought a personal invitation to celebrate victory meant we were friends."
"If you would have kept your mouth shut for a little bit longer, I was just about to ask you guys to come along, you guys are Nina's friends so technically I need to be civil to you if I don't want Nina to cut off my tongue. So, yes please come along." I replied with as much sass as I could. Nico really does have a way of getting on the last of my nerves.
Drake who was standing at Nico's side put his hand on Nico's shoulder silently asking him to not retort. And I was thankful for it, I didn't want to take out my frustration and anxiety on Nico, it wouldn't have been fair of me.I turned around and made a beeline for the senior hall, the feeling of restlessness growing in my chest.
Nico:
I really wanted to smack Xander on his head. Probably with a bat. Maybe this way I would be able to take out the stick up his ass and tone down his pretentiousness. He only reason I didn't quip back was because Drake stopped me and I had seen how tense Xander's shoulders were after the kid told him that someone is waiting for him the senior hall. Honestly, I was also curious, who was it who could get under Xander's skin so easily. I have seen the man fighting and even then, he was calm as the sea. He hightailed towards our school's magnificent building, somehow Xander had slowed down and was now walking beside me, I really didn't know why but I just shrugged it off. We entered the senior lounge.
The sofas were made of luxurious material the red curtains were draped on the tall windows which looked over the school gardens. On one of the sofa's our headmaster sat whereas on the sofa opposite him sat a man with grey hair his back to all of us. I heard Xander's breath hitch and I could easily guess he knew the grey haired man.
"Dad?" Xander called out and I felt my mouth drop, and I was sure I wasn't the only one. I looked back and saw the old man turn around and look at Xander with a proud smile and before any one of them could say anything further a short figure darted towards Xander and crashed with his legs."BUBBA!!" a sharp squeal came from the tiny human that had latched himself with Xander's legs.
"Hey chico! How's my lil man?" Xander smiled at the tiny human, picking him up in his arms and ruffling his hair. I wouldn't ever admit it to Xander but the scene in front was making my heart melt.
Chase coughed and Xander realized that there were other people in the room. He sheepishly turned towards us rubbing the back of his neck, "this is my younger brother, everyone meet Theodore Reyes."
The tiny human widely grinned while all of us stared back at them with a plethora of emotions.
