As I lunged for this man with my eyes heavy with hatred, he only stared at me pity and love. I bared my teeth at him which, unbeknownst to me, has sharpened. My chest vibrated with a deep growl. He grabbed me by my throat without choking me, only restraining me.

"Settle down, little one." He ordered.

I spat at his face and growled again. My arms were flinging wildly as I tried to draw blood on the face that looked like mine. To see the blood that was my kin clowded my mind in a red haze.

"If you don't settle down I will stake you down." His eyes turned hard as Gabriel held me first. I only screamed in frustration and struggled harder. "Have it your way, daughter."

Gabriel used his free hand to reach behind him and retrieve a piece of smooth metal that sparkled in the light of my room. Quicker than I could blink he shoved it into my chest, opposite of where my heart was. White blinding pain pushed the blood haze away as I passed out, seeing only the eyes of my father as I drifted to oblivion.

When I woke up, I moved to sit up only to realize that I was restrained. I looked to my body and saw a stake was still in my chest. I groaned with discomfort as I pulled it free. I watched my skin through the hole in my clothes as it mended itself together and I suddenly felt as if I could move again. It was like the stake held a spell over my body. I sighed and sat up, suddenly becoming aware of the shadow sitting in the corner. Again, this shadow was familiar and I growled lowly.

"What do you want?"

His head lifted as green eyes met mine in the dim light. "Can I not get to know my eldest daughter?"

I laughed loudly. "No, you do not get the privelege as your daughter has been long gone. I am an orphan as is the toddler I care for!" I yell.

"I am both your's and Jolie's father. Whether you choose to accept it is not up to me."

"No! You do NOT get to play daddy. Do you have any idea what my life has been like? What Jolie's life has been like?" I cried, tears spilling down my cheeks. "You left your family. You left your BLOOD. That is unforgivable."

That man that claimed to be my father hung his head in shame. "I do not understand what you have gone through but I wish I did. For your mother to know what I was is agains the laws of my people.... of your people. I had to leave or the Council would have killed her and you. I can never apologize for my actions... But I will try."

This time, the rumble in my chest grew louder. "Apology NOT accepted! I have gone through things that I should have never gone through! I was a child. Still a child! You do not get to just waltz into my life and do this to me. I was doing fine without you and Jolie and I will continue to do fine!"

His green eyes turned pleading to me. "Please help me understand. Please, that is all I wish. I want a chance to know you and Jolie and give you both a chance to know a loving family." He held his hand out to me.

I hissed at him and grabbed his hand, touching it to my forehead as we were both shoved into darkness.

AGE 5:

“Hey there, little princess.” Mommy’s new boyfriend said as he walked into the living room.

“Hi.” I said back politely, trying to ignore him. He smelled like bad. And something bad always happened to mommy when her boyfriends smelled bad.

“What are you doing up so late princess?” He scooted a little closer to me and my cookies.

“Watching cartoons.” I replied. “Mommy always lets me do it. It helps me sleep.”
