I heard running coming from behind me and I turned around quickly, still holding my little sister. There was a disapproving look on the man Gabriel’s face and Ronnie just looked pissed off.

“Don’t talk to your mother like that, Sassaba. Give Jolie back, we have some things to discuss.” Gabriel said sternly. I just laughed and shook my head as Cleo gasped loudly, staring at Gabriel and Ronnie.

"NO! Not yet! She's not ready!"

I looked between the group. "Not ready for what?" I asked

“There is a reason why we are here. Have you ever wondered why things come easily to you? Why your moods change? Or better yet, why you grow and heal so quickly?”  Ronnie asked.

Of course I wondered, but what did this mean?  This didn’t make any sense.

"We are telling you now because it is time that you come back to your home and train."

"Home? Train?" I questioned quickly. "This is my home. THIS is where I belong. And train for what?!"

He looked at me then, stared me right in the eyes and I felt as if he could feel my soul. It was like he could feel how all this was hurting me, and he knew it.

"We got to tell her." He said, turning to Gabriel, who nodded, not taking his eyes off of Cleo.

“Tell me what!” I demanded. “Whatever it is you better tell me right now or you can get out!” I didn’t want to scream in fear of waking up Jolie. By this time, Ziggy had shown up and was standing on the sidelines, staring at his shoes like they were the best thing in the world right now.

“You were born for one reason and one reason only.” Ziggy mumbled.

“And that was?”

"To be a killer. Your mother is human, but your father is what is known as a demon. This means you have special powers. There are quite a few of you half-breeds, but it takes us a few years to find you and then we have to wait until you are 16 to come and collect you." he said looking down.  “But since you started showing your powers early, I called Gabriel.”

"But..." I said, letting it all sink in. I didn’t understand…. Why wasn’t I told?

"It's why all the kids were freaked out at school Sad! Your irises turned black! It happens when you are angry, or any other emotion for that matter!"

"Don't you DARE call me Sad EVER again. Do you understand me?" I whispered to him with as much acid as I could muster. I saw him flinch. But Ronnie only smiled and nudged him.

"Short temper, just like her father."

"And you! Who do you think YOU are waltzing up in here thinking you OWN the place? I have the right mind to rip your throat out right now!"

"Fat chance, princess." He snorted.

Ignoring him, I turned to Cleo. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"It wasn't her place." Gabriel said.

I suddenly felt as if my whole body was on fire as I turned around looking Gabriel in the eye. “Oh, so the cat didn’t get your tongue. Way to let your minions tell me who not only you are, but I am as well. Way to go, dad.” I spat.

I was so confused, what was going on? So many things were going on and it was mentally, emotionally, and physically wearing me down. I was at the point of breaking. I felt like screaming this was very frustrating. No one was openly telling me anything, just saying things that had a hidden meaning and talking in circles.

As if reading my mind, Gabriel said "I know you are frustrated, but all will be revealed soon."

I nodded again and walked towards him. He grabbed my arm, sending a warming sensation through my body, and motioned for my mom to come and take Jolie from me. Shakily, she took her sleeping body from me and went and stood back in her place. How could she sleep through a time like this?! I was kind of glad she was asleep; this wasn’t anything she needed to see. But I was still uncomfortable with Cleo holding her.

"Kill them." He said to Ziggy and Ronnie, who nodded and retrieved side arms.

I looked up in horror, frightened and angry at the same time. I ripped my arm from his grip and went and stood in front of Cleo and Jolie in a crouching position.

"You will not touch them. I will kill you." Even I was surprised at the intensity of the threat that came out of my mouth. It would be a dark day in hell before anyone touched the only family I had left. Just then, Jolie woke up and stared at Gabriel with her big, round eyes and Gabriel stared back with fondness and admiration on his face.

Cleo set Jolie down, and stepped from behind me and up to Gabriel. The two shared a loving look before she swept her hand across his face. A flicker of love and comfort went over his face for a moment as his eyes glazed over black. It was kind of scary and I could only imagine that this was what my eyes looked like. Anger and despair also washed over his face as I watched him intently. Jolie was clinging to the back of my leg; Cleo pressed her lips to his forehead for a split second before pulling away and stepping back behind me. Gabriel nodded.

"You and Jolie are to come with us; your mother will be safe." He said, his eyes going back to green. "Come along girls."

My mother slid into a chair, and for once she looked much older than her age of 42.

"Sadie, go and pack a small bag for Jolie, the institution does not take care of younger kids." Gabriel said. "Ziggy, go with her."
