The week went by very quickly and in no time, it was Saturday.
The date.
I didn't know what I was thinking when I accepted. "It's not like I don't want to. I mean he's sweet, funny, a tease and...and-"
"And it sounds like you're in love." A voice startled me from behind.
"What?" I dropped the towel.
"Love. You sound like you've fallen for someone, no?"
"Oh. No. No no no no no. Love? It really isn't like that Clara." I picked up the towel and continued to clean the huge windows.
The view from here was to die for. Literally too. If you fell from here you'd be well, dead.
"Well, whatever it is. I suggest you follow your heart." Clara smiled at me and placed a hand on my shoulder before walking away.
"Follow my heart eh." That shouldn't be so hard right?
"Hey, Scarlet." My body shook in surprise and my cheeks turned darker as if on cue at the sound of the name- my name.
"Hey, Dre." I turned around and looked at him, giving a small wave.
"Are you ready?" He asked me.
The smile I had on my face immediately dropped as realization dawned on me.
Is he talking about the date? I can't go wearing this! I haven't even purchased my dress yet.
"Scarlet. Are you okay?" Dré eyed me worriedly.
"Hm? Yes. Yes. It's just that I don't think this outfit is appropriate." I said in a small voice, my eyes looking down at my feet.
"Appropriate? To give the master his lunch?" My head shot up sharply.
"Oh! That's what you meant." I slapped my forehead.
"Yeah, sure. Let me just put these away." I got on one knee and picked up the bottle of Windolene that sat on the floor.
"Or perhaps you wanted to go in something a bit more" he looked me up and down and said "inappropriate?" He had a smirk on his face as I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Dré! Shut up!" I yelled and hit him playfully on his chest as he broke into a fit of laughter.
"C'est toi pourquoi, moi pour toi to la vie." I was singing the lyrics of Michael Bublé's La Vi En Rose which played from my phone.
"There." I said as I finished drawing a small wing with my eyelimer. I picked up my lipgloss from the table and swabbed it over my lips and staring at my handheld mirror.
"Not bad, Lou. 'Give your heart and soul to me and life will always be...la vie en rose." I stood up and sang along to the song, twirling as the song came to an end.
After I had dropped off Mr. Charlie's lunch, I told Dré he could head back as I had something to do in private. I went to the mall to purchase a dress for our date.
It's not a date Louise. It's a hangout. Between friends.
The price of the dress almost ripped my heart out but I bought it nonetheless. That was two weeks of part-time work gone in a single purchase.
"A hundred and twenty pounds, I will wear you!" I laughed as I removed my dress from the hanger and threw it on. This was my first time properly trying on the dress and my mouth hung open at the way my reflection looked wearing it.
