  As soon as I looked at Neville look up at the raised platform on which the sorting hat resided, I felt a sharp plummet deep in my stomach.  I had missed Lavender's sorting in the flurry of sitting down at the House Table.

  I stole the table a glance, scanning for Lavender, yeah maybe I hadn't been very fair to her during the beginning of the day, but I would like having her in my house.  Looking around the table, I realized she indeed was a Gryffindor as well.  She looked pretty chummy wedged in between a short, tan girl with a long plait and some other children I hadn't seen before.

   McGonagall kept on shouting out names, but I didn't really have interest in any of them.  I had begun to get quite hungry, as I hadn't eaten since the platform.  I watched tensley as Professor McGonagall finally made it to the "Z" names.

   When she got to Zambini, Blaise; I knew the sorting was finished.  As he was the last student remaining.  Thank god, this meant we could eat!

   I looked at the table expectantly, when I realized everyone else was looking at the teacher's table.  It appeared, Dumbledore was going to give a speech or something.

   Dumbledore rose to his podium and turned his wand gracefully in his hand.  He looked at the school with bright eyes and said;

" Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!"

   I was a bit confused, was this man crazy?  He continued to speak of which corridors were out of bounds, apparently the third-floor corridor was off-limits), which items weren't to be used in accordance to "Argus Filch" 's regulations, and that magic wasn't to be used in the halls.

   It was a bit boring, so I tuned most of it out.  None of it could be THAT important, could it?
