Saturday night, that freezing, dark, and rainy October night, when Sam called you, it was as if the whole world stopped. As if the rain droplets stopped pounding against the small restaurant's roof, as if the wind has stopped shaking the leaves, as if the lights of the cars passing by just stopped. Every words Sam was telling you ripped your heart little by little. But you couldn't imagine how hard it was for him to say those words, how much it could break him to the bone, words he said many times before but this time it was not the same. This time it was impossible to repair, no one could do anything.

"Dean is gone"

Were the first words he spoke after your name.

"What do you mean, gone? Did you both fight? Or... Is it about Cas"

You asked plenty of questions waiting for an answer you weren't expecting.

"No. Dean is dead"

Sam struggled out. But you didn't answer. Nothing was coming out, you didn't even think something could, there weren't any words to describe how you felt right now, another language could have.

Dean Winchester, your best friend since you were both teenagers, you saw him growing up, falling in love, you put bandages on his wounds, physicals and emotional as well, you both lived so much things you didn't think a human even could in a lifetime. You helped him in so many ways and he did the same for you, you were like brothers and sisters, partner in crimes, you thought you would die together, after having a long and happy life. You planed on quitting hunting so that way you could have a life you deserve, a life Dean deserved. You always thought Dean deserved the whole world, the entire universe and beyond, he was a good man, he suffered but still he stood.
And he was dead. For real this time.

"Where are you" you only asked
You didn't want to talk about it through a phone, you wanted to hug Sam, to tell him everything is okay. Even if yourself you weren't sure yourself.

"At the bunker. He.. Hum.. He didn't leave today" Sam murmured

"Don't leave okay, I'm on my way"

You arrived at the bunker, parked your car in front of the grey building. Yet you waited. You sat there, your hands gripping the wheel, unsure, lost, you didn't know what to expect.

You knew you were going to have to face it, to talk with Sam about it, to see him cry. With a shaking hand you opened your door and got out.

As you entered, everything seemed so calm, different. You immediately felt a weight on your shoulders. You walked down the stairs, walked into the room and soon heard footsteps coming from the corridor. You turned around and Sam appeared.

Your heart broke at the sight. Not only because of the dried tears on his usually smiling cheeks, but also because of his form. His shoulders were limp, he was wearing a hoodie you recognized as one of Dean's, his hands burring deep inside the pockets. You didn't say a word, just walked toward him, and hugged him. Sam wrapped his arms around you and yours around his neck

"It's okay, I'm right here" you whispered

"I'm sorry, Y/n"

You finally let the tears flow down the cheeks and let yourself buried your face in his neck.

"You don't have to be sorry for anything Sam" you said, not pulling back

"When?" you asked
"Yesterday night. I couldn't tell anyone earlier"

You pulled back and looked at him

"Did he say anything"

"He doesn't want us to look for him or to bring him back"

You nodded and looked down. Everything went so fast. You talked to him yesterday morning. Yesterday morning. He was okay, Sam was okay, you were okay, it was just a hunt, he said. Cas just died, Jack just left, no one actually was okay but no one also said they weren't.

You backed up a little, feeling your head spinning. You knew you had to stay strong for Sam, you wanted to be, but it's Dean. It was. You took a hold on the nearest chair and rubbed your temple. Letting out a sob, you placed your hand against your mouth and sat down, feeling the warm and large tears against it. You were slowly realizing what actually happened. Sam walked in front of you and only stood, watching as your gaze was lost in emptiness.

"Y/n" Sam called your name. You slowly looked up and didn't bother to force a smile. He sat on the chair in front of you and took your hands in his.

"I love you" you only said. Because you wish you could have said this to Dean.

Sam got up, bringing you up at the same time and hugged you. Dean will never feel the warmth of love again.

19 years later

Your feet walked by themselves on the floor, without you knowing where you were actually going. Looking around, you didn't recognize the place at all. Only trees and a bridge. But you sucked in a breath as you saw what was on the bridge and especially who.

"Dean? Sam?" you called as you slowly walked toward them. The brothers turned around and you couldn't help but smile as you saw Dean. You waited 19 years to see your best friend again. And Sam, well Sam died only a few months ago, but you still missed your husband. You gave the biggest hug to Dean and the same to Sam.

"Cas is here too" he said
"Where?"

A sound of wind was heard behind you and you turned around to see another of your long-gone best friends. Cas was standing there in his usual trench coat and walked toward you to hug you.

He then stood next to Dean and that's when you knew.
"So you two-?" you asked, a finger pointing in between them

Dean breathed in and buried his hands in his jean's pockets, looking at Cas.

"Yes hum surprise," he said

"Finally!" exclaimed Sam and patted his brother's shoulder

"You knew?" asked Cas

"Cas, everybody did" you laughed and looked at Dean and he gave you one of his comforting smile. A smile you missed so much.
