So near, and yet so far....

It was still raining when we arrived at the Ranch. The rain stopped for sometime and  I was able to help Jeremy to return to the car, but when I returned to the cabin to get the stuff that we brought there, it rained again halfway  while I was going  back, I was drenched. The driver had to drive slowly as the dusty road turned muddy and slippery. The more than half an hour drive became double when we finally reached the house. They were waiting for us, as soon as we arrived. As they helped Jeremy out of the car, I was left by myself and was about to follow them when the fuming face of Gabriel welcomed me in the doorstep.

"Are you out of your mind?" He  explosively yelled at me.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know that it would rain." I knew that somehow I was partly responsible of what happened, I yielded, so as not to argue with him.

"I wasn't talking only about the rain, why did you go out in the first place, have you gone crazy?" Still with a loud voice.

"It was fine when we left, and Jeremy was so adamant to go ."  I realized that he was right.

"I entrusted Jeremy to you, thinking that you would make sane decisions for him, he can be  very stubborn and persistent, and you should have known better,  you should not be swayed by his childishness and foolishness,   the doctor even  strictly told you  that he can't over exert himself, and he can't be exposed to anything dangerous because his immune system is weak, but how could this thing happened, something bad could have been happened out there, and even now."

"I'm sorry." He was right, so I just apologized, And my heart was hurting.

"Sorry? All that you can say is sorry?  Damn it, 'Kelsey!  How could you?  And why you didn't call? We were worried to death! If I did not come here today, I would not have known anything!" He cursed under his breath.

"There was no signal even if I tried to call." I shivered, I should not cry in front of him

"Stop answering back at me!  I hate it when you do that! From now on, I forbid you from going anywhere with Jeremy without my permission, get out of my sight!"   He turned his back and went to Jeremy's room.

I felt shattered with his arrogance, I felt humiliated with the way he treated me.

KELSEY

I needed to get out of the 'suffocating feeling' that suddenly claimed me, I needed to do something away from everybody, I needed to be alone, I wanted to cry and scream. I realized that it was too late to back out of this madness.  My foolishness was getting back at me. Without thinking too much, I went to my room and changed into a one piece swim suit and put my bath robe on, and grabbed a towel, I followed the way to the pool which was at the back of the house, there was no way that someone would see me at that time. It was still raining when I went out, it was dark outside, but a solitary lamp post was lit in the poolside, I dropped the towel and the robe on the floor just near the doorway, and went to the pool and dived in, I  plunged into the water, submerged at the bottom and resurfaced.  Surprisingly, the water was warm because of the floor heating system.  I was crying,  and no one would see my tears as it would just mix with the water, no one would hear me screaming as I screamed underwater with my mind over and over again.

I swam two laps, went afloat, I could feel the rain water on my face still mixing with my tears, and I closed my eyes, I stayed there for a long time.  I noticed that  all lamps surrounding the pool area were  lit up, someone  must have opened all the lights. I sank myself at the bottom and emerged out of the water after some time. But then, I  needed to do something more to release my tension, I did  another two laps of back stokes.  Then, I pulled myself up the railings, and sat down on  the edge  of the pool, with my two feet dangling and immersed in the water. I stayed there for sometime, deep in my thoughts, then I suddenly felt the cool wind  touching my skin, I shivered. The rain had stopped. It was time to go back.
