Let the pain remain...

KELSEY

It was the eleventh month of my stay at the Ranch.  The doctors  found a solitary  nodule in Jeremy's  right lung,  the reason why he had episodes of chest pain  with breathing difficulty at times. The cancer had spread. We knew from the beginning that it could be worst,  but it was still difficult to accept. As for myself,  I learned the hard way of accepting many things, as I never led an easy life.  Being an orphan at a very young age and  though we were not that poor, life had not been easy, but I had a   simple way of accepting what was just there, and strived hard just to make it better. Acceptance could make things less  difficult no matter what it was.

But not for Jeremy.

He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, with enough and more wealth and power to change many things,  but he couldn't, they couldn't fight his illness with no amount of money, and even power.  And for someone who got used of getting almost  everything he wanted in his life quite easily, it was really painful and hard. They didn't want Jeremy to know this new  painful revelation,  but somehow, he  still came  to know.  Suddenly, it changed him from a determined strong young person who  somehow accepted his illness at first, to someone  who was  gradually losing  pieces of himself bit by bit. He probably got exhausted.  He was succumbing into depression  more and more, sometimes  he was so happy, sometimes  he  was down and sad. He would cry, and yell and curse.

That day was one of the worst.

He suddenly woke up from his afternoon nap with a crash, from out of nothing, he yelled and screamed to anyone at sight. He threw the pillows  out and spilled his medications on the floor. He cursed Nana, and his Nurse, Cielo. I was not around when it happened, I took Dane and Sean for  an afternoon  walk when Thomas, the butler came rushing in to ask me to go to Jeremy right away.

I entered the room with a loud bang, the bedside lamp came crashing on the floor, with Jeremy's screaming voice all over the place.

"Get out! All of you get out of here, I don't want to see you!"  He was trying to get up, Nana immediately went to his side to stop him, but he pushed her away and she landed stumbling down the floor beside the bed.

I  helped Nana up, and I went to Jeremy's side to appease  and coax him.  So many times, I was the only one who could stop him from doing those things, he would listen to me.

"Shhh....'Jerm...what's wrong, please, calm down, talk to me...." I held one of his arm. And he grasped me so tightly, I winced in pain, I wriggled my arm free.

"Get out!" He yelled. with tears rolling down his cheeks.

"Please, let me stay here with you."

"Don't you hear me, all of you get out of my sight!"

"Jeremy, they will go out now , but please let me stay and we will talk, okay?"

Pack!  "Get out of here, bitch!"  Then he screamed again.  He was hysterical and combative.

I did not see it coming, his palm slapped my left cheek with such force that it felt numbed with  its deafening impact, the pain travelled from my cheek to the sides of my neck. I was caught off guard. I was shocked and I was not able to react and move, while still holding my cheek, I just felt Aunt Beatrice came behind my back, dragging me away  from Jeremy's grasp, and took me to the adjoining room and closed the door. From the closed door, I could still hear Jeremy screaming on top of his lungs.
