My jaw nearly hit the counter when I saw who walked in.

It was like that cheesy moment in movies when the girl sees the guy and there is a ZAP. Literally. Tell me I'm joking if Mozart playing in the background suddenly sounded 20 pitches higher and was climatically echoing throughout the cafe, because I'm almost certain it was. He was approaching me and without realizing what I was doing, I found myself staring at him.

He had dark brown waves of tousled hair slicked back creating a ruggedly mature look, and mysterious dark green eyes to match his complexion. For the build that looked to be like a surfer's, he was surprisingly tall. He looked to be around 20ish.
I am suddenly brought back out of Quinn's total creep analysis and I lock onto anything but his eyes.

He clears his throat to get my attention. "Hey. I'd like a medium black, hold the cream and sugar, and a large brownie."

"Ok Quinn," I thought to myself determinedly. "First customer you got, and he's going to think you're a creep. DID YOU HEAR WHAT HE ASKED FOR?? Ok. Ok. Pull yourself together and DON'T. SCREW. UP."

I give him my best smile, despite the fact that I still seemingly looked like Medusa in the flesh.
"Coming right up."

He flashes me a crooked smile, and my heart skips an unfamiliar beat. I try to disregard the strangeness of my mood as I quickly turn around to work on his order. Luckily, that training session Mrs. Renee offered me had paid off and I began to prepare his order while managing to keep my cool.

"Why haven't I seen you here before?"

A curious deep voice calls from behind me as I am pouring black coffee into a carrier cup. I slowly tilt my head to the side and I recognize the source of the question coming from him.

"I'm new here. It's my first day." I reply quizzically. "What's it to you?"

"I figured you were, since your apron is on wrong." He smirks mischievously.

My face turns bright red and I look down. He was right- my apron was turned inside out so that the cafe logo was facing the other side.
I sneak a glance back up at him and mumble, "Thanks for letting me know. But for the record, I don't appreciate it when people stare at me and point it out. I tend to think they have the wrong idea." I raise an eyebrow in a challenging manner.

He stares at me in feigned shock and amusement. I reach out and pass him his coffee and brownie while managing to stay calm.

"That'll be $7.55"

He reaches out and hands me a $10 bill, as he slowly turns to leave.

"Would you like your change back?"

He turns his head to me and flashes a sympathetic smile.

"Keep it. It seems like you'll be needing it a lot more than I will."

I look at him in frustration and confusion. "EXCUSE ME? What is that even supposed to mean?"

Before I could hear his reply, he had already walked out the door.

"That nerve! What makes him think he can talk to me like that? Gosh Quinn, you always go for the jerks, don't you? You didn't even come up with a snappy comeback!"

I lean my head down into my hand on the counter and sulk.

The doorbell jingles and in walked a businesswoman. A few other people follow behind and I serve them. The day goes by as I stand behind the counter helping customers. I decide that whoever that guy was, with an ego bigger than his head, wasn't going to ruin my day.
