The dream started off like it always did. He was sitting in cage surrounded by trees. No matter how hard he tried to force his way out, the black metal bars would not budge. The cage was tall enough that he could stand and wide enough that he could spread out both his arms and lay with his back on the floor.
A lock dangled from the cage door. A lock and no sign of a key anywhere in sight.
Then he noticed a white dove perched on a branch in a nearby tree.
A strange feeling crept into the boys hurt. A subtle warmth. A creeping emotion, like the rays of dawn slowly painting the morning sky.
The boy immediately pushed the feeling away, and let a more aggressive mood take its place. Jealousy.
He felt hatred stirring within his ribcage. He loathed the stupid dove and felt it unjust that he should be imprisoned while the bird enjoyed freedom.
