The power of the Augustin coven had greatly risen in the past three years. Ever since Seraphina became the head witch, in her mother's place, the coven adapted to Sera's modern style of thinking and practicing. The witches started to apply their magic more practically and they trained even more intensely. Sera was ever so determined to make the coven as powerful as possible. She would never be caught dead as the leader of a coven that could not fend for themselves.
There was this necessity to become more powerful, because the witches knew they could not entirely rely on the protection of the vampires anymore. Although, that meant they imperatively had to practice their magic in secret. This proved a difficult task—there were always DeLaurent vampires on the watch—as requested by my parents. There would be the occasional slip up where a witch was caught, but that's where I came in.
As Sera and I got to know each other on a romantic as well as a friendship level, she was the only person to know me inside and out. And often, she knew me better than I knew myself. Eventually, she trusted me with informing me of the witches' intention to become more powerful, unbeknownst to the vampires. In learning about their plan, I knew deep down I had to assist in any way I could. Not only did I love Sera with all my heart, and I was willing to do anything for her, but I knew she and the witches were most definitely right. The witches not only craved—but they needed—magical freedom, and I was not about to be the one to hinder that right to their people. They were also my people at one point, long ago.
Given my newfound close ties to the Augustin coven, my parents were more lenient and they started to let me take on more responsibilities regarding clan and coven matters, conflict, and or politics. They saw my relationship to Seraphina and the coven as an opportunity to ease the witches' hostility towards the vampires. So as I knew of the witches' desire to become more powerful, I would try my very best to lessen their punishment, and or completely disregard their crime as a "mistake" or a "misunderstanding". This proved a difficult task—to inherently be on both sides of two dichotomous parallels.
But as I also had my parents' trust, they still believed that I would do anything for the clan. Even before my alliances had shifted, I still would not have put the clan before my own morality. And although I may have done anything for my parents, I most certainly was not willing to do anything for the clan. On the contrary, I would do anything for my beloved Seraphina.
A reckoning was coming. I could sense it on the hairs of my skin. The supernatural tension was building like a volcano preparing to erupt. Implicitly unknown to everyone, but they all knew it would erupt one day. Just when exactly...was the question. I did my part in helping the witches to further develop their powers individually, as well as the coven as a whole. I knew Seraphina would be the one to lead the witches into salvation. There would be a new era. But the fighting would not end with the vampires. The humans—they're ruthless and scared creatures, willing to completely throw away their morals for a slight sense of security. Well I think that is more deadly than any supernatural creatures I knew capable of. From how I saw it, the witches needed to sacrifice a lot more than a temporary hindrance of their power—than secret practices—if they wanted lasting freedom.
