Rushed

Chapter One

        My computer dings and I groan, clicking onto the flashing tab. I'm three reports behind now and my shift ends in two hours. There's no way I'll be able to finish these on time. My chest tightens and I breathe heavily. Once, twice, and three times. Now back to focusing. Once I finish reading my new assignment, I click back to the report I was working on in the first place.

        Right when I lay my eyes on the six paragraphs that I've read so many times over that it's actually become sickening, a new flashing tab pops up. 'God, why? I can't be behind FOUR reports.' I think and click on the tab. My breath caught in my throat as my eyes scanned over what I first thought was a report. Evangeline Warren, the name I dreaded to recieve anything from, just emailed me. My mouth went dry and I swallowed multiple times. "M-Ms. Howell...I'm saddened to inform you that you have been dismissed from duties..." I read aloud quietly. I screwed my eyes shut and emitted a frustrated sigh. This is the best-paying job I could find in town and I blew it.

        'You have not reached your weekly job quota for two weeks. Your last paycheck will be mailed to your home address on the 15th. You are allowed one day to gather any personal belongings from your cubicle. Thanks for working with us. Signed, Evangeline Warren.'

        "Shit..." I sigh, covering my face with my hands and leaning back in my chair. I glance at the picture of my mum, my older brother and I sitting on my desk. I failed them, I knew I wouldn't be able to make it in America. I slowly stood from my seat and grabbed my purse from the drawer. I walked to the lift, reaching into my purse for my iPhone. I quickly stepped into the small box that I dread and leaned against the wall. I sent a quick text to my older brother, Dan, asking to Skype when I got home. What will Dan say about me losing my job? He's going to be so disappointed in me.
