--Alex's POV--
"Mom?" I call to her."Hi sweetheart." She smiled from the hospital bed.
"What's going on?" I ask her.
"You're gonna start a new life." She says.
"But I don't want-" I begin.
"It's gonna be okay. I'll always be with you." She says.
Her hand reaches up and touches my arm. Sadly, I don't feel anything.
"I love you mom." A tear runs down my cheek.
"I love you to Alex." She pushed away my tear, but I still don't feel anything.
*
My eyes open but I don't dare move. I'm sitting on an uncomfortable bed in a room with hardly any light.
"I know you're awake." I hear a voice.
My whole body stiffens. It sounds like the voice from the woods.
"It's hard to hide red eyes." He adds, laughing slightly.
I shut my eyes. Wait, my eyes are red?
"What do you want?" I ask.
"I'm not going to hurt you." He says.
"Then what do you want with me?" I ask again.
"I'm going to protect you." He says.
Then I hear the sound of a lighted match. The fire lights up the side of his face but I hardly get a peek before he turns around. He begins lighting fancy candles around the room. Now I can see what the room looks like, a dungeon.
As for the man, he looks like a normal teenage boy. He has brown, curled hair and green eyes. If I stood up he'd probably tower over me.
"Wait, why don't you look like me? Why don't you have red eyes?" I ask.
"I do." Within a split second his eyes turn dark red and long, white teeth grow.
"Oh." Is all I mutter before he goes back to normal teenage boy.
"I'm going to teach you control as well." He says.
"So, I'm like you?" I ask.
He simply nods.
"But, what if I don't want to be." I mumble.
"You were born like me." He says.
"Then why did you-" I reach my hand up to my neck but, there was nothing there. It had healed.
"Bite you? Because you would've died if I did finish your transformation before the age of sixteen." He says.
"Why didn't you wait until then? I'm not ready for all this." I say.
"You would've died either way, don't you get that!" He yells.
"W-what?" I mutter now scared.
"I'll just show you." He says.
*
I'm in the woods, where I was last night. I hear footsteps,
It's my dad.
"Damn it Alex." He finally is standing in front of me.
He grips the front of my shirt and throws me to the ground. My head slams against the ground causing pain to shoot through my body.
"You. Stupid. Little. Girl." He said between punches.
It felt like I was actually being punched. But I knew the boy was just in my head.
"Stop." I scream but it comes out as a whisper.
*
"Why did you do that?" I asked as tears ran down my face.
"You asked for it." He muttered.
"How did my neck heal?" I ask changing the subject.
"It's what vampires do. They heal." He says.
"So any damage done will heal?" I ask.
"Only damage done by humans or other vampires." He says and I cringe. They're not real, they can't be.
"So what if it's by something else?" I ask forget all that was on my mind.
"It heals a lot slower." He said.
"What else could hurt you?" I ask.
"Machines." He says and his eyes wander off.
"Machines?" I repeat.
Without saying anything else his slightly lifts his shirt. There's a scar from his belly button reaching to his hip.
"This is what happens when people find out about us." He says.
"W-what did they do?" I ask kind of scared his answer.
"They put me through a machine, they scanned me, trying to figure out who I was. What I was." He seems edgy about the subject.
"When was this?" I ask.
"May 15, ten years ago." He replies.
"My... Birthday." I say.
He nods.
"I've gotta get going." He says and heads toward the door.
"Wait, where am I going?" I ask.
"You're not going anywhere." He says.
"So I'm just staying here?" I ask.
He nods, leaves, and closed the door. I run up the door and try to open it, but it's locked.
"You can't just keep me here!" I yell.
I pound on the door until my hands hurt. There's no use. I sit up again the wall and just wait for him to come back.
