I marched over to Bernard with a new found rage

I marched over to Bernard with a new found rage. He jumped slightly when he saw my angry face. I didn't intent to frighten him, but my mind wasn't functioning with logic.

"Bernard, get the girls!" I ordered. He flinched at the sound of my voice. I paid it no attention. "We're going home." He opened his mouth to question me, but I silenced him with a glare. He gulped and nodded in defeat.

"Yes, Ma'am," he replied. He walked towards my girls, who were currently playing with another child. He bent down to their level, seemingly whispering something in their ears. When he rose, they expressed their disappointment with "Oh mans" and "Come On." Nevertheless, they allowed him to escort them back to the car.

After setting the girls in the backseat, he told me that he wanted to speak to me. I let him lead me to a large tree near to the car.

"What's wrong with you?" he asked. I sighed. Could I trust him enough to tell him about my findings? True, he was in love with me, but he could easily put aside his feelings for his loyalty to Henry, his employer.

Suddenly, an idea came to mind. In my head it already sounded diabolical. I brushed a strand of my hair in order to make myself look more attractive. Then I looked up at him with big doe eyes.

I placed my hand on his chest, rubbing slightly. I proceeded to ask, "Do you care for me?" He looked surprised. I didn't know which caused him to be shocked: the question I asked or my advances on him. The shock, however, was replaced by another one of his charming smiles. His pearly white teeth contrasted with his extremely dark skin, which blended seamlessly with the night. The smile was enough for me to recognise his handsomeness. In another life where I wasn't married to Henry, he could have been a man that I would have fallen in love with.

Now, here was I about to take advantage of his obvious attraction towards me.

"Deeply," he replied honestly. His reply made me feel even worse.

"Can I tell you something, and you'll keep it a secret from my husband?" His face lit up. Oh God. The poor man probably that I was going to confess to him.

"Anything for you, my lady," he replied.

I told him everything: from what I had read in the diary, to what I read on the autopsy report. During my explanation, his face morphed from curiosity to repulsion. The repulsion came when I elaborated on the details of the autopsy report. In the end, he agreed to keep it all a secret.

I started to walk back to the car, but he stopped me.

"I've wanted to tell you something for twelve years. On the day of your daughter's death the boss made me drive him to the police station and the hospital. He was carrying some suspicious looking suitcases."
