I soundlessly put on my pyjamas

I soundlessly put on my pyjamas. Then I picked up a book from the small bookshelf in the room, and collected my cell-phone. Still maintaining my silence, I marched to the door with the intention to leave.

"Where are you going?" the man in the room asked. There it was. I knew he wasn't going to let me leave in peace. He didn't sound demanding. He was just calm and neutral. It was as if he were asking about the weather. But, I knew better than to think that I could ignore his question.

I addressed him without turning around. "To a guest room." The hairs on my skin stood up straight when he closed the distance between us. His fingers circled around my wrist, and he spun me around gently to face him.

"Dear," he began, and I cringed a little bit. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything." Was that an apology? Acceptance of his actions? From him? His tone was warm, but also soft and inviting. His fingers caressed my wrist. The temptation to believe him was overwhelming. He knew me too well. He knew which buttons to push to make me give in.

But, I stood my ground. "No, you're not." I closed my eyes, just to not look at him.

"Please, I need you here," he begged. His eyes could make the most hardened soldiers melt. I focused on my breathing, counting the times I inhaled and exhaled. How could one human being's emotions and personality change so much? How could a man who confidently declared that he 'made love' to Anna, suddenly change so much? It didn't make sense.

"N-no," I insisted, but it came as a stutter.

"What can I do to make it up to you?" He had the audacity to question. What kind of stupid question was this? He knew what to do.

"Confess your crimes," I said as a matter of fact. He pouted his lips, which only made him resemble a petulant child.

"I can't do that," he argued. Why? It was the least he could do.

"Why can't you!" I was on the top of my voice now. "What is stopping you? Don't you care about the fact that your family member's lives are at risk? What about our daughters, or your beloved cousin?"

He sighed deeply. "I don't care about my family apart from our daughters and Anthony." His confession was unsurprising. A man like him does not have the capacity to love or care about others. I thought he loved Violet and Maddie in his own way, but today he proved me wrong. He cared for no one but himself. Violet and Maddie were just tools to continue his and the Garcia family legacy.

"I have no words for you, good night." I dismissed him. I attempted to drag my arm out of his grasp, but he held on tight.

"At least sleep in here," he stated, "We don't have to sleep together." I followed his gaze to the seat in the window sill, and then to hammock that hung outside on the balcony. My eyes settled on the latter

"Will you leave me alone if I sleep out there?" My voice sounded like an innocent child, and I had no clue if that was intentional or not. The stoniness of his face melted away, as he let my hand drop to my side. This gave me answer.
