Tobias's P.O.V:

I smelt her before I saw her. The sweet smell of apple pie and perhaps honey, god it was intoxicating. I was sitting in my office, speaking with my dad when it happened.

My wolf, Xavier, went crazy. I had never felt anything like it, I felt both whole and broken all at once, it was as if I had just ran 10k and had a relaxing bath at the same time.

My dad could tell something was off, he reaches over and grabs my hand "son, are you feeling unwell, why is your wolf trying to come out" my dad is the former alpha of the Grey Claw pack and god he was a good one, I have a lot to learn.

"Tobias, look at me, what is the matter with you boy" he begins to say but his eyes suddenly glaze over, when he finally comes back to our conversation the calm, caring man is gone, replaced with a leader.

"Come Tobias, we have a guest"

I hadn't really been listening up until then but a visitor at the pack house got my attention. I shoved my wolf into the back of mind, which is a task all in itself without the amazing smell threatening to bring him out.

"Right dad, sorry" I say sheepishly

"No problem Toby, go welcome the guest to the grey claw pack and see what their business is with us, go easy on her, I believe she is human". I nod, filing the information away for my gentle interrogation that is yet to come.

I walk down the stairs while mind-linking everyone to go to their rooms so I can bring in a guest without them feeling overwhelmed. As I walk towards, the amazing smell wafts up my nostrils and my wolf begins fighting to be let out.

I shove him down and open the door, only to be slapped in the face by the full force of the sweet scent radiating off the girl in front of me.

She is beautiful, not your common blonde hair, blue eyed beauty, but something else entirely. Enchanting, she seems to draw me in, I want nothing more but to look at this girl and only this girl for the rest of my life.

"mate"

My wolf is speaking to me but he is so far in the back of mind that I can't hear him, I am entranced by her, why? I can't seem to think.

"we found mate"

It takes a second for me to register Xavier's words but after a couple of seconds the pin drops and I lightly gasp, there is my mate, small, beautiful. And human.

"Can I help you? I say quietly "Miss uuuh..."

"Silver" she whispers, while staring at me. "my name is Silver, I am lost, I ran away from, um home, please help me". She drops her gaze from mine and shuffles her feet back and forth.

"Silver, that's an interesting name, excuse my son here for his lack of hospitality, do come in" and in that moment I know that he knows, the smirk on his face when I turn around only confirming it.

I clear my throat awkwardly "So uh, Silver, why did you run away"

"My dad abused me, I needed to get away from him, I feared he was going to kill me" she says, looking so small and so fragile. As if a single hug would break her, but hugging her is all I wanted to do.

She pulls up her sleeves to show the hundreds of scars, fresh cuts and bruises that littered her hands and arms. I gasp in horror, who the fuck thought it was okay to treat her like this, such beauty and innocence must be protected and cared for, scrap that, everyone needs to be protected and cared for. But her in particular, how could anyone do this to her?

She smiles softly before gently pulling pulling her sleeves back down, she's staring at me but she looks confused as to why.

"Don't worry Silver" I say reassuringly "No one can hurt you here"

I help her carry her bag up to the spare room beside mine, she sits on the bed, admiring its softness. "Do you think I could have shower?" she asks softly "I don't feel very clean and I don't remember when my last one was".

I nod, "of course, the bathroom is the door to the left, take your time and use anything you need". She quickly scurries to the bathroom, holding onto her spare change of clothes.

I get up to leave but notice a strange container in her bag, quickly I pull it out before realising it has no label. I take one out of the container, noticing the strange blue colour.

Immediately I drop it as the smell reaches my nose, Wolfsbane. Poison.

I leave her room, kicking the small blue pill under her bed and taking the container with me.
