Nick was silent during the day we set our date to be. There were no messages, no calls, and no anything. It actually made me think that everything was just a dream. I started to question what I remembered when he asked me out that night. But I knew it wasn't something my mind just made up because my father was there. He knew about it too.
Right?
It was a good thing that I had work that day. There were scenes we have to reshoot so I had to be there.
"So," Selena loved appearing so suddenly these days. There was a familiar twinkle in her eye, just like the way mischief makes its way in Joe's head. "The boys told me Nick asked you out."
"Uh, yeah."
Alright, so it isn't a dream.
"Where are you two going?" Selena followed me to the food spread.
I took a bagel and sighed softly, "Well, he isn't telling me anything. Last night, he just told me that he'll pick me up so I don't know of his plans."
Selena nodded, as if familiar with Nick's ways. "Nicholas is pretty quiet about everything. He likes keeping things to himself unlike his brothers. That's what makes them such bad gossips." The other girl took a slice of pizza and bit on it.
I laughed softly. I have been a witness to their antics. Whenever something happens with me and Nick, Joe and Kevin would be expected to interview me hours later. I usually just answer generally and not spill any other details.
"Enjoy it okay? Nick is a great guy. He's just very intense at times, he takes everything seriously." Selena smiled at me. "He really likes you too."
I looked at her and returned her smile, "Do you think so?"
She nodded, "He was pretty sad when he and Miley broke up. We often assume he's more hurt than he lets on." She sighed before taking another slice of pizza. I didn't realize she already finished the first one. "But he's getting happier now."
I hope I am part of the reason why.
"He likes you." Selena winked at me. "He doesn't normally warm up to people as fast as he did with you. And let me just let you in a little secret, he has always thought you were beautiful."
I almost dropped my food. "What?"
She laughed, "Why do you think Joe asked you for a photo so suddenly when you first met?"
That was actually a good point. I didn't think much of it then but why did he?
Then Selena continued, "Joe heard him say you were pretty. And you know Joe, he just...puts himself where he isn't supposed to be. Like Nick's business."
We shared a laugh.
That conversation kept me busy. Did Nick really think I was pretty when we first met?
"Ready to head home, dear?" My dad approached me to help me with my bag. The shooting was finally over and in a few months, we'll be able to see the film in the big screen.
I nodded and we drove home quietly. We were actually pretty late today because of this mini party we had on set, we had to celebrate the final day. So I thought to send a message to Nick, to tell him I'm just on my way home.
Y/n
Hey! I'm just on my
way home. I might be late.Nick J
You're just in time.I stared at his reply then I just brushed it off my mind. He was just being nice.
When we got home, my mom opened the door. She had a bright smile on her face. "Hello love. Help me set up the table?"
"Mom, I need to prepare for my date." I entered the house but she was insistent.
"It won't take up too much of your time. Your father and I are planning to have a romantic evening in the backyard." She had a girlish expression on her face. She looked pretty excited and I smiled at this.
I admired my parents' obvious affection for each other that even if they've been married for the longest time, they were still going on dates and romantic night outs.
"Alright. What do you need?"
My mother handed me two plates and two pairs of utensils. "Can you set them up outside?"
It was not new that they would have backyard dates. Our backyard was home to my mom's amazing green thumb.
So I put my bag down and took them outside.
"Hey."
I stopped the moment I opened the backdoor. Nick Jonas was the last person I expected to see there.
He was standing in front of a picnic set I assume he laid out. Nick had a shy smile on his face when my eyes darted from the picnic to him.
"Uh, mom? Nick's here! Did you know about that?" I yelled out.
Then I heard my parents' laughter. Nick even joined them.
"I asked for their permission, yes." He walked towards me to take the plates from my hands. His warm brown eyes dancing in amusement. "It was such a great thing that you'd be out for the day."
"You knew I would be?" I followed him to the place he set up.
Nick winked at me, "I have connections."
And then I realized that Selena must have told him. I laughed at the thought.
"So, I thought to just take you out of the house. I asked your parents for permission to use your backyard for our date earlier today." Nick sat on the duvet cover he laid on the grass. He looked up at me when I just stood there, wondering how the heck everything is possible. "Uh, sorry... Did you want todo something else?"
I shook my head, "This is perfect, Nick."
