It Was Her Smile (#3)

Chapter Four

1 Month Later

Maisey leaned back on her couch and smiled softly as she marked off the 20th thing on her bucket list; "Visit Hershey's Chocolate factory".
Niall had made the decision to help her complete the list, and they were almost done. 
Maisey's smile began to disappear as looked at the last four on her list. The first two could probably easily be completed. And maybe the third. But the last one? It's highly unlikely… 

Louis and Maisey hadn’t really talked much since the argument between Niall and Louis on the sidewalk.

Niall had discreetly told him to stay away from Maisey and Louis had quickly disappeared from the group of friends. He stopped sitting with them at lunch, claiming he had projects to work on in the library. And had avoided everyone in class and in the halls.

Niall flopped down on the couch beside her and pulled the list from her hands, “What’s next?”

Maisey sighed lightly, "It's not something that we can do right away because it's supposed to be a surprise for me..." She tapped the list lightly, "'Be given a puppy' as a present. The next is easier, though. 'Go to a drive in movie’."

“Then let us go!” Niall smiled as he took her hand and pulled her up from the couch.

Maisey have him a bright smile, "let's!" She grabbed her phone and glanced at it quickly, her smile faltering for a second. Still no text. Why was she even waiting for one from him? It'd been a month since he last spoke to her…

Niall frowned slightly but quickly covered it with a smile as he dragged her out of the house and into his car. 

When they got to the drive-in he turned towards her, “What do you wanna see? Bug’s life and Toy story, or Brave and TMNT?”

"Toy story!!”

“Toy story it is,” Niall smiled as he got the tickets and pulled into a parking space.

Maisey scooted over beside him and rested her head on his shoulder, her eyes fixed on the screen for the entire thing. Every so often, you could see her zone out for a few minutes, her mind wandering.

Around half-way through the first movie Niall let out a heavy sigh and said, "I'm gonna go to the bathroom, wait here okay?"

"Okay," Maisey replied quietly with a nod.

Niall quietly opened the door and stepped out, heading in the direction of the restrooms he pulled out his phone and dialed the number of the last person he wanted to call for help.

~A few minutes later the car door opened and Niall slid in, "Hey, Daisey Maisey?"

Massey turned towards him, not tearing her eyes away from the movie, "Hm?" It had just gotten to the part where Buzz met the little green aliens.

"There's something I need to tell you," Niall muttered, his voice shaking as he spoke.

She glanced over at him, tilting her head to the side, "What is it? Is everything okay?'

"It's my fault Louis is staying away from you," Niall cried out.

Maisey blinked a couple times, processing what he just said, "... Y-your fault?"

"Yes," Niall looked down as a tear threatened to slip, "I just...I really like you Maisey, as more then a friend and I was jealous so I told him to stay away from you but that just makes you sad. So I want you to be happy so I called him and he's waiting for you outside." Niall said in a rush before looking at Maisey, "I'm really sorry Maisey."

Maisey reached out, cupping his face in her hands before wrapping him in a hug, tears slipping for the first time in... well, a long time, "I'm sorry! I never noticed it and I'm such a bad friend for not noticing! I'm so sorry, Niall!!"
