A new chance

     I woke up to the sound of Teresa's voice calling my name. "(Y/N), wake up." she said standing next to my bed. As my vision cleared I realised she was holding something red in her hand. "Wait, is that a real apple?" I asked being amazed that we finally got food after days of starving. "Yes dear. And you have to eat it. Then you can come and join us outside. There is a man sitting there and he wants to talk to us" she said giving me the apple and walking out of the room. 

     I tried standing up but my legs gave up and I fell back onto the bed. I decided to eat the apple first, then try again. When I arrived outside I could not believe my eyes. In the middle of the room there was a huge pile of food. The girls were all eating in silence. Not far from us a man was really sitting there. He was wearing white and his face looked like a rat. When he saw me arrive into the room he cleared his throat and started speaking. "My name is Janson. If you have had enough food please listen to what I am about to say. The second phase must start, the scorch trials. While you were put to the test in the maze the world's state has gotten worse. A sun flare brought a virus to our Earth. The name of the virus, not surprisingly is the Flare. All of you have this virus in your systems. But don't worry my darlings, it takes time for symptoms to develop. If you get to your destination in time, we will be taking you to a safe haven where you will get an antidote. You must start walking towards North. But before that, a few more things. Tomorrow morning a Flat Trans will open at 6 and will close after 5 minutes. When you get through you will have to the closer end of the tunnel towards a house. Subject A1 will have to go outside where the others from Group A will be waiting. She will return to the house with Subject A2 and kiss him. When Group A leaves. Then you will all return to the tunnel and walk towards the other end. There you will meet Group A once again. You will kidnap Subject A2 but act as if you don't remember any of them. You will then continue towards the mountains where Subject A1 and A2 will separate from the group. Subject B1 will soon join them and kiss Subject A1 and together they will throw Subject A2 into a gas chamber. When that will be over, Subject A1 can explain to subject A2 what happened, I don't care. The most important thing is that you arrive to the safe haven in time. Okay, now you can ask questions" he said and Teresa stood up and walked closer. "Subject A1 is me. I have already talked to Subject B1. But who is Subject A2?" she asked and we all became curious.

     Janson started smiling and she opened the drawer of the desk he was sitting at. He started searching through some papers until he finally took one out. He stood up too and walked really close to us and then he turned the paper towards us. I was shocked to see what we had in front of us. I turned towards Teresa who had tears in her eyes. Janson smiled again and started talking again. "Thomas. The young rebel. But I see two of our subjects know exactly who I am talking about. Teresa, will you be kind and tell your peers some interesting things about dear Thomas?" he asked looking towards Teresa who was standing there unable to speak. Her task was to humiliate her best friend and the boy she loved. "I can't do this to him" was the only thing she could say. Janson's eyes started shining brighter then before. I knew he was up to no good. Then he started laughing and took us by surprise by what he said next. "Alright then. Well I am really sad to tell you that if you don't complete this task Thomas, Subject A5 and Subject A7 will all die." he said and I froze for a moment. A question just slipped out of my mouth "Who are the other two?" I asked and Janson seemed really happy I did. "I am so glad it was you who asked this question. Subject A7 is your dear friend. The Asian boy. And I believe you know Subject A5 very well. Our smartest subject needless to say. We like to call him The Glue. He has a very important role in our experiment. If you still don't know who I am referring to I will tell you this one thing: If you don't save him you will be very disappointed" he said that evil smile still on his face.

     I was sitting there. Unable to move. Unable to breathe. It can't be him. They can't do this to us. They can't do this to me.
