I was staring at her laying on a stretcher, fighting to stay alive. I felt useless. I'm a doctor, but somehow, I couldn't explain what was happening. I was tired of the repetitive sound of her heartbeat rhythm, I wanted her back, breathing and smiling as always. "We were on a normal car trip and all of a sudden... I... I just saw nosebleed and she just passed out...it may be common but she stopped breathing" I said sobbing with tears in my eyes when a doctor came in our room. "After that I drove as fast as possible to the closest hospital". I didn't even look at him while I was talking, I still had my hands on my face, crying. Come to think of it, I didn't know who was him or her, if a doctor as I first thought or a normal person who came in our room. I was too worried to face up to reality. We were just arrived there, no one before visited her, well except the nurses who intubated her at the emergency room. We were waiting. Well, I was waiting. The only word I heard from that person was "Interesting", with a British accent. I opened my eyes and saw a quite old man with a walking stick moving towards my wife. I reacted because I didn't know who he was and what he was doing there.
"Hey" I said anxious, while he constantly looked over Daisy "calm down, who are you? You... you can't just break in, this is a private space, don't you see that..." I stopped talking. He wasn't listening, just staring at her, intubated and comatose. And I was stuttering. I was afraid. In that moment a young woman came in the room, in a doctor suit. Perhaps she overheard me.
"Can, can you help me, this guy broke in..." "Relax, he's a doctor, the best doctor we have actually" she said and then left. I was speechless, I felt embarrassed. I didn't know how to behave with him, I didn't even know his name! After she left, he glanced at me. My face turned from a mix of tiredness and anger to a serious and sorry one. He looked back to her.
"Who's she?"
"Daisy, Daisy Johnson... she's my wife" I told him, looking at her. I was regretting my decision. I shouldn't have gone to the hospital, I didn't reflect when I saw her like that. We finally had a normal life and so my first thought was to take her to the hospital, as a normal person would do. But we weren't normal. People were still hidden from the truth of our species, they didn't know us. And we were enjoying our normal life so much that I forgot about who I was. I realised there was a problem, Inhuman's body doesn't work as a human one. I was in trouble, I put in trouble us and our species. I suddenly became nervous and petrified and he noticed it, he looked at me in an awkward way. I tried to relax but I was so anxious, close to tears. He took her medical file, which was blank, because he was the first to look over her. After seeing it, he closed it and threw it in the rubbish, and left. I got into a panic, "This is the best doctor you have?" I first thought, and I was determined to get away from that hospital. How could a person be neglected like that? I think I really went mad that time.
I got out from our room and followed him. "Wait! What about her? You can see that she not a common patient, I can see it at least, I'm a doctor too, and if she'll be ignored again like that.. well I swear that I'm going away" I said angry while we were walking. What he replied was just "that's not a probelm that concerns me".
I looked at him with tears in my eyes: "Please, help me". He stopped walking, looked at his feet and closed his eyes.
"Come with me".
He led me to a room with other doctors sitting at a big table in the centre of the room. There was also that young woman I had met before. They suddenly looked at me as I walked in, and then looked to him. He stood near the whiteboard and said: "Well, we have this guy, who's very worried for his dear wife..." and he put his hands to his cheeks and looked up to the wall, with a foolish face to embarrass me "...and he want us to find a little tiny guy in her body who made her spit blood from her nose. Oh, and by the way he's a doctor, too" he said and winced. At this point he became serious.
"Go, get a sit" he told me. "So what can you tell us that we can't see, more that only some blood under her nose or that she can't talk?"
"Other symptoms?" one blonde man said with an Australian accent.
"Or a different behaviour?" said the other woman.
"Or... a change of routine?" said the other doctor.
"I, umh... maybe, I found her a bit less concentrated, but in everyday stuff"
"Cognitive disorder" said the Australian man and he wrote it on the whiteboard.
"Headache also" I told them.
"Well everything makes me think of a brain aneurysm... we need to make as soon as possible CT scan and do something before she dies!" and they all ran away except me and the old doctor.
"Something is telling me that it's not an aneurysm... Those weren't common parameters for an aneurysm... you know, aneurysm doesn't cause suffocation" he said softly after they were all gone.
"I usually don't visit patients" he admitted after a few seconds.
"Then why did you come in our room? Were you forced or something?"
"That girl. She looks familiar to me".
I looked at him shocked: "I don't think you know her, we... it's just very unlikely that you could know her, that's it". In that moment a woman entered in the room.
"House, I need you in my office" she said and then stared at me.
"I'm having a conversation with another doctor!" He said in a silly way and waved to her. For a few seconds silent reigned.
"Okay..." he finally said and looked to me. "She's the hospital administrator, I gotta go!" he puffed.
