São Paulo is all good! Twenty four hours a day. A walk around the city is a true Iliad by Homer.
There are even indigenous villages.
The differences are striking. Many people working non-stop.
Life here is hard. But it has its compensations.
There are thousands of buildings, eight million cars and more than ten million people.
From corner to corner it is just joy. And sadness too.
The city is well divided and only those who have no sense of direction get lost. There are two marginals. The one on the Tietê river that cuts through the East and North zones and the one on the Pinheiros river for the West and South zones.
In the past, the neighborhoods near Marginal Tietê were the most commercially developed. Several warehouses, shops and factories and an army of trucks left to supply the country. It was the largest industrial hub in Latin America.
Over time, the face of the city has changed. Today, the most modern area is concentrated in the neighborhoods of Marginal Pinheiros.
There are plenty of very luxurious and very rustic shopping centers.
And the stadiums then? Call the crowd, put on your team's shirt and go. The stadiums are packed with shows and games and, of course, make traffic the worst thing in your life.
Airplanes and helicopters cut across the sky all the time. There is an airport within the city. It is the busiest in Latin America for domestic flights.
Here it looks like you will never die. I can't explain it. One has to come here to find out.
São Paulo has a lot of street food and many fairs too. It has drizzle, cold, heat and rain. All on the same day.
The city came to existence in that schoolyard. Awesome old buildings are: Teatro Municipal, Estação da Luz, Pinacoteca, Mercado Municipal, Museu do Ipiranga ... It is also very noisy and has a lot of traffic.
Among the oldest buildings, the most striking are the veterans Terraço Itália and Copan – this one is a concrete wave - in the neighborhood of the share house. The real postcards of the city, recognized all over the world, stand out in the middle of the decaying and dirty Center, far from the reality of the centers of the cities of the first world, where the central region is the main address.
In New York, Tokyo, Paris, London and Toronto, everything you are looking for, the best there is, restaurants, theaters, all is in the center. Everything very clean and very organized.
At night, the city is beautiful, full of lights. That's when parties begin and bars rule the metropolis. A better bohemian life than that is impossible ..
Techno and Grunge still were appreciated. Our Corona, with Rhythm of the Night, as well as Fragma, D'Agostini, DJ Sammy, DJ Ross with Emotion, Scatman, Double You, Talesa, Erika, Ian Van Dahl, Culture Beat with Mr. Vain... Anyway, bands that exploded in the nineties were our favorites.
There are many contrasts. Many different people living as they can.
Here people are worried, suspicious, and always is a rush.
And those who come from any other city suffer a little. It is difficult to make friends. There's no evening chat at the neighbor's gate.
Here, the race for work determines people's lives. Parking here costs a fortune. Some reach fifty reais the first hour.
The city has a special vocabulary: "I'd like to have a 'média e uma canoa na chapa'". It is the famous French bread with butter on the hot plate.
Bakeries here are better than restaurants. They are a symbol of the city. The climate favors hotter and spicy foods.
