"You knew we were mates!"
Well shit.
Running towards the car to avoid this confrontation, he suddenly appears in front of me. My legs begin to shake, my heart pounding in my chest. The look of hurt in his eyes is almost enough to make me crumble. Breathe. Taking a deep breath, I take a step back from his accusing eyes.
"I'm sorry." What else is there to say? I pretended he wasn't my mate and told myself I could fight it. I saved him, there's no denying our mate bond now. If he wasn't my mate I would have never of tried to save him.
He's a vampire and I'm a shifter, we can not be together. I never knew this could happen, it seems impossible. Never has there been a case of a shifter impriting on a vampire, it just doens't happen.
His body is shaking, his hands clenched. "You're sorry? You pretended I didn't mean anything to you." His hands unclench, hurt lacing his voice. "Do you know how much that hurt?" Sounding unsure, his body no longer shaking he takes a step towards me.
"Yes, I'm sorry." Soft, my voice is shaky. "You don't understand, you're a vampire and I'm a shifter we're mortal enemies." Taking a step forward, we're almost chest to chest now. "We could never be together, we're made to hate each other." My hand reaches up to his chest briefly touching it before it drops back to my side.
"We don't have to hate each other." Our bodies are almost touching now, his breath smells of mint. I want to lean towards him and kiss him but I stay in my spot. His hand reaches up and he touches my cheek, his thumb rubbing it. "You are so beautiful."
I'm frozen. Unable to react, I allow myself to feel the coolness of his thumb rubbing my cheek. I feel electric shokes every time his thumb moves. I allow myself to feel the pulsing pleasure of my mate touching me. I'm staring into his golden eyes unable to say anything.
I take a deep breath and a step back away from his touch. "I don't know." Why can't I think of anything to say? We are supposed to be enemies and here I am standing inches away from him letting him touch my cheek. "I mean I don't know how it would even work. My instincts tell me to kill you but my heart and mind want to hold you, to touch you and make you feel better." Taking another step back, I shake my head.
"You won't even try! You tell yourself you don't want me but we both know it's a lie. I could tell by your reaction when I touched you." He takes a step closer, his hand grabbing mine. He laces our fingers together, eletric shocks pulsing in both of our hands. "Do you feel this?" I nod. "This tells us we are meant to be, you are my other half." I feel myself leaning into him, wanting him.
The mate bond tightens around the both of us, trapping us in it's noose. I feel as if I'm suffocating. My hand tightens around his, giving me the strength to breathe. My head is pounding, my palms sweating. The mate bond is telling me to give him a chance, to let him be everything I need but my instincts are telling me no it won't work. Two powerful parts of the body fighting against each other to meet differen't goals.
"Let's just take it slow." Unlacing our hands, I stare up into his golden eyes.
"Slow." He repeats, his eyes never leaving mine. "I can do slow just please don't shut me out again." I nod. "Friends?"
"Friends."
