"They locked him in a basement and they killed his boyfriend and they- they-"
"Ok, kid, calm down," the police officer sighed as Minho paced back and forth along the interrogation room's floor. He sat at the table himself, wishing Minho would just sit down but he hadn't since he arrived at the station.
"Don't you believe me? Look, they did this to me," Minho pointed to his nose, dried blood still underneath it, "and Chan, he's in the hospital! His foot got cut when we had to escape."
"Ok, kid, can you just take a seat-"
"Stop calling me kid!" Minho burst out. He froze on the spot after realising what he'd done and the police officer raised an eyebrow. Minho decided to slump down into his seat after that and apologised, "I'm sorry, I'm just... aren't you going to do anything about this?"
"First we need to discuss the 'boyfriend'... Han Jisung, you said his name was? You also said they killed him?" The police officer asked, opening a file on top of the table. Minho nodded as the officer took out a piece of paper and slid it across the table to him. "Han Jisung died of natural causes early last year. January 2016. The report says it right here," he pointed to a line of text on the autopsy, "he was a sickly boy ever since he was a young child. There was no homicide."
Minho took the paper, brow furrowing as he scanned the page. He shook his head, "no, it's a lie. Look-" he pointed at a line of text near the bottom, so small it could have been missed. "No autopsy was performed outside of the church. The church just said it was natural causes and buried him before anything could be investigated. It's all a lie!"
"Ok," the police officer sighed as he took the file back. Minho gritted his teeth, hands curling into fists on top of the table. "Listen, I know you don't like that boarding school, but you can't go around accusing them of murder. That's a serious crime. What I'm guessing happened is you got your friend to punch you in the face and cut his ankle to make it look like you've been abused or something along those lines, but that church has been around for the past one hundred years and there has never been an incident like this so we'll talk to your parents and get something sorted out, but you can't just make up-"
"I'm not making it up!" Minho shot up from his seat, hands slamming against the table. When the police officer stared at him, he scoffed, shaking his head. "Fuck this," he muttered, "I can't believe I thought you'd actually help. Everyone in this fucking town is brainwashed by that fucking church!" He yelled, storming towards the door.
"Hey!" The officer called out, but Minho grabbed the door handle and left without looking back. It slammed behind him. He half expected every police officer in the precinct to come chasing after him as he stormed away, but nobody did. Of course they didn't. Nobody cared for his ludicrous claims. After all, how could a well-respected church kill an innocent boy? Of course they wouldn't! Minho was just some attention-seeking teenager in their eyes...
"Stupid fucking pigs," Minho spat, pushing open the glass doors and walking out into the station's car park. He had no idea what time it was, gone midnight perhaps. It had taken a while to get from the forest to the police station but luckily, the hospital was only down the road. Minho stormed down the dark sidewalks, only illuminated by occasional streetlights and muttering curse words under his breath with every step he took. His mouth was set in a hard line, hands curled in fists that didn't disappear until he pushed open the hospital doors and lay his eyes upon Chan.
Chan was sitting in a waiting chair, near the exit of the hospital. Busy people rushed around him and he stared at them all, wonder shining in his eyes. He'd never seen so many people before. Lots of them weren't very happy, walking with hunched over bodies or crutches. A few wore smiles on their faces though, mothers leaving with newborn babies and nurses conversing with a few patients. When Minho sat beside him, Chan said, "there are so many people around!"
