Houston, TX
Onika Maraj"Wow, this is a.....really nice house sweetie." My mom said, looking around then up at my dad who nodded in agreeance. "How much did it cost?"
I rolled my eyes, waving her off as I walked up the few stairs leading to the door. "Don't worry about that mom, just know I had it and it's within my means."
"I mean, don't get me wrong sweetie, I'm glad you got the house you wanted, but don't you think this is a little much? I mean it's only you-"
"Yes, but hopefully when I get the time, I'll eventually have a family of my own. Why not plan early?"
She tilted her head back and forth. "Well, I guess your right-"
"Howdy neighbor!!!" We all heard this really loud, deep, kind of country but not country voice say.
We all looked over at the house next to mine.
There was this girl, this girl that had her hair down, flowing down her back, a bandana wrapped around her forehead, a neon green shirt, and matching shorts. She had a bright smile on her face, waving, like she knew us.
"Um, hi." My mom said awkwardly.
"You guys new here?" She asked, walking to the end of her porch and crossing her arms.
She had hazelish eyes, lightskin so that means she's no good, and that damn color she's wearing. So childish. Why am I even looking at her like that? She looks like a damn clown. No one I'd choose to associate myself with.
"Obviously." I snapped. Why is this girl even talking to us? She doesn't know me and quite frankly, she's making a bad impression of herself with me already.
My mom waved me off. "Don't be mean Nic, she's your new neighbor, be nice." She turned to her with a smile. I rolled my eyes. Why is she so nice when I don't want her to be? "Actually, this is my daughter's house. Her name's Onika, but you can call her Nicki. Introduce yourself sweetie." She motioned towards me.
I looked at my dad, hoping he'd help me. He just shrugged. No help.
"You already know my name, what else do you need to know? Ok can we go in the house now, I don't-"
"She's 22." My mom winked at her.
She chuckled. "Same, wow, twinsies. Names Beyonce." She winked at me, walking down the porch and into her drive way which is what sperated our houses. "Well I assume you haven't moved in yet since I haven't seen a moving truck. I'd be glad to help you." She said with a smile I wanna call genuine, but I genuinely don't know this girl.
"No thank you, we got it-"
"Sure, we'd appreciate the help." My mom said, eyeing me like we were gonna talk when we got inside.
I huffed, hanging my head and rubbing my temples.
I don't know this girl, she could be a cereal killer for all we know, and here she is just inviting her into MY home? Boundaries. I'm not even that judgemental, but I'm a very strict and to the point person. She knows that. She's my mom, of course she does.
"Of course. As soon as I see you guys pull up, I'll be out. I'd love to stay and chat with you guys for longer, but unfortunately I have a few things to do. Nice to meet you." She looked at me, giving me a small head nod and walking into the driveway where her garage was.
I groaned. "Mom! Why'd you invite her over!? Did you see her?! She's a damn color clown!"
She popped my arm. "Hey! Don't be mean! Me and your father did not raise you to be judgemental. She seems like a nice girl! Get out there, Lord knows you need some dick."
I gasped while my dad burst out laughing, high fiving my mom. "I've been wanting to say that for so long."
I squinted my eyes at them. "Shouldn't you guys be advocating that I focus and stay-"
"Hey there's this cat in your backyard and I was wondering-" Beyonce tried to say. She was sitting in her car with the window down, staring at us through shades.
"You can fucking have it! Bye!"
She stared at me for a few seconds before smiling. "K, sorry to interrupt you. Bye!" She threw up the peace sign before backing out and pulling off annoyingly fast.
I turned to my parents who were giving me disapproving looks. I rolled my eyes, opening the door and motioning them in. "Damn shame...." My mom mumbled before grabbing my dad's hand and walking him in.
"What's a damn shame? That I don't appreciate you guys taking a complete strangers side over mine, your daughters? That's the damn shame."
They looked at each other, then looked at me. "Yeah honey, you need some dick. Never in all my years of raising you did I think I'd ever hear myself saying that." My dad said, shaking his head.
"Like I was saying. Shouldn't you guys be advocating for me to focus on my career, and keep on the straight and arrow path that I'm on right now?"
"Yes, but we also don't want you drowning yourself in work. Honey, your only 22 years old. You talk and act like your our age. You have your whole life ahead of you, we don't want you to waste the best years of your life stressing over nonsense." My dad said. My mom nodded in agreement.
"Well, I understand that, but there's just something's that I have to stay focused on right now in order to live my life, and I'm telling you, that weird girl is nothing but trouble. I can already see it." I cringed in disgust. She wasn't ugly or anything, she just....didn't look all that safe. If that makes any sense.
They raised there eye brows. Why are they always thinking the exact same thing? "And what made you think that?"
"Ok, first of all, look at her! She had on that loud ass outfit, and did you see how fast she pulled off? Childish! She interrupts in strangers business, talks to much, and the car she drives, totally irresponsible."
My dad shrugged. "Looks like she's living her life to me."
I scoffed. "You of all people should agree with me!"
They rolled there eyes. "Whatever Nicki. Don't give that girl to much and you don't even know her. But enough about that, show us around." My mom said.
I smiled. "Thank you. Finally."
They really need to pick sides. Me or a damn criminal?
